We'll all be living in 'Naldo Nation thank to Laperiere and B'rubes.

It's coming Flyers fans and it's amazing!

Maybe Lappy and Berube see something in this kid that we don't. I don't see it myself, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt...at least for a little while.

Ehh. I dont like the combo and how much it has been forced down my throat. Time to try something else.

I agree with that. Schenn should get a serious look at 1LW, and Simmonds should be on the second line with Read and Couturier.

After three seasons I'm just ready for something new. I'd rather have a skilled player with no experience on the fourth line and see what we have than keep watching Rinaldo throw elbows for giggles.

I was ready for Hextall to be patient and only give out contract extensions as a reward for good play, not for a season of bad penalties, bad penalty killing, bad defense and no offense.

I don't get all the Rinaldo hate. He's such a nonfactor in the decision of games and that's a good thing

Maybe Hextall and Berube know something that we don't. Here's sneak footage of Rinaldo's offseason training:

I thought we got Ryan White to replace Rinaldo ?

I know he's temporarily injured, but what happened ?

That's the problem. Wouldn't you rather have someone playing every night who IS a factor?

The hate is strong in here today.

Really I think this is being completely overblown as a bad signing. If he goes back to the player he was 2 seasons ago drawing penalties and getting the other team off their game a bit than its a good signing with a very low cap hit for a few years. If he continues to struggle he can be waived and taken off the cap entirely. He wont provide much offense but you can't have a full team of scorers as that's not realistic. I actually like Rinaldo as he is a kid with a TON of heart with a great work ethic and an eagerness to learn and get better and seems to be well liked by his coaches and teammates. Those are traits you just cannot teach. Yes he had a bad year but is it really too crazy to think that he can bounce back to be at least what he was in 12-13 or better? Maybe he continues to work his butt off and becomes a pretty good penalty killer. Theres obviously more to Rinaldo than any of us know or see or he wouldn't have been signed to this extension. Just my opinion

i really dont' expect much from my 4th line
sure it's great if they can pop a goal in from time to time but the physical potential rinaldo brings could even bring joe thornton back to life after he's on the ice for a goal

If he does the first, he could be signed during/after the season. This isn't a guy who'll make a lot more money even if he plays as effectively as he can. It is premature and unnecessary.

Well, I believe the 4th line should be able to play hockey and stay competitive when on the ice. A strong 4th line can take pressure off of the other lines. A weak 4th line forces Couts and Giroux to spend more time in their own end of the ice.

My view is that being able to agitate the opposition, get under their skin, and draw them into penalties, is a good trait for a player to have. But it should not be the main skill that a player offers to a team. Rinaldo needs to be a hockey player first, and an agitator second. I don't know how the coaching staff is guiding him or what they are telling him and trying to teach him. But being an agitator should be put on the backburner, and using his speed, and physical presence to become a better defensvie checker, neutral zone hound on the puck, and a better forechecker, should be the priority. Along with better discipline. Spend less time agitating, and hitting. And more time actually playing the game.

Meh. As long as he's under that 900k threshold I don't care if he's signed for 15 years.

I agree and all signs point to him having the desire and work ethic to become that player. Berube and Hexy must see this and believe he can become this player or he wouldn't have been extended. I have faith he can because his passion and heart are traits that breed success even with a lack of skill.

I really don't see a problem with the extension or the timing of it. Most are looking at it from the perspective of simply not liking the player, or feeling that he's not a good player. I think he has some raw ability, but he is not without question marks. And if the team likes a player, then the timing is not questionable. All about perspective. Personally, I need to see some growth this year. He stagnated last year in my opinion.

placing someone like akesson or leier on the 4th line hurts their ability to gain valuable experience in different situations
