1) What do you care?

- This money could go to supporting minor hockey in those markets as opposed to supporting the pro sports teams

2) How do you determine who "Deserves" a team? Quebec City failed to support a team in the past. Why does that make them a more desireable location than any other place where a team is struggling financially?

- Quebec City didn't fail to support their team. Do your research.

3) Again, why do you care if a player wants to escape some of the limelight? that's not a negative thing sometimes. Just a bigger fish in a smaller bowl.

- players would be more likely to consider my team

4) Eyes are eyes, regardless of where they are. even slight market relevance is better than none at all.

- exactly. i believe there's more potential for added viewership by developing the sport/brand in strong markets than trying to force it in markets that aren't working

5) Teams are doing that already. Give it time. You can't have a team in a brand new market for under 20 years and expect it to just flourish. That's ridiculous. the longer it's there the more kids will grow up watching hockey.

- Teams might be doing this, but on a much smaller scale than what the NHL is paying to support the Coyotes. Nothing breeds hockey fans more than playing the game.

6) How do you determine a location that wil "Never" support hockey?

- I use my mad math skills yo!

Funny how Pens fans forget when the arena was empty and the team was broke.

The Nordiques were consistently in the bottom half of the NHL in attendance. part of that, obviously, is the smallish building, but the fact remains.

Also, you're upset, then, that superstars are playing in markets you deem "Undeserving" rather than playing in yours, at least partly because they dislike the leve of scrutiny they would recieve in a market such as Toronto?

I loved the dark years.

'cuz when I lived in Boston, I could get tickets off scalpers for less than face, 5 minutes after the puck dropped.

I'd watch the first period in the upper loge, and pick out a row of empty seats near the glass to watch periods two and three.

I think he's more upset that revenue sharing allows bad teams to pay top players.

Edit: by bad, I mean bad in terms of revenu. So, "poor".

I think that's something that Leafs and Habs fans can agree on:

The salary cap sucks Bozak.

Even a smaller city like Halifax would have a great fan base with way better attendance than Phoenix or Florida.

not sure a city like Halifax could put 18,000 in the stands every night with an average ticket price of $80.00.

well the Leafs were decent in the pre cap era when salaries skyrocketed. Montreal was terrible.

They don't have to sell the tickets around $80.

Hell, you can get amazing tickets in Florida for $25 including hot dogs soft drinks and parking!

It's the lack of corporate box sales that would cripple them.

How many boxes could the Irvings rent for the Moncton Panthers?

Or get a free ticket if you had a valid Florida driver's license.

Nope, not making that up.

Sadly, there's no relief in sight.

The crap teams out-number the profitable ones, so they push around the profitable ones and demand more money and more things to make sure the profitable ones aren't successful.

You know, kinda like Canada's Equalization Program.

See how I got a little dig in at the expense of our Frenchie Habs friends?

Boo-yeah.

It does, yes. But again, so what? Welcome to the world of sports business. The alternative is a soft cap like a luxury tax which, spoiler alert, helps poor teams sign top players.

On the topic of the Nordiques....

they drew 15,080 a night in 1989/90, a season they went 12-61-7.

It's capacity was 15,176.....sorry 15,400.

How the hell can someone say they didn't draw fans to their games?

That wasn't a consistant trend, though. They hovered around 14,500-15,000 for their entire existence. Which was by no means terrible, but other pastures looked a lot greener at the time.
