This extension is the worst thing Hextall has done so far. Why not let Rinaldo get thru this season before resigning him?
- Feanor

If it's under $900K per year, I won't have too much issue with it.

But I agree, no reason to rush into a deal with a guy whose development plateaued and then regressed a bit as the season went on. I wish I understood the fascination with unskilled guys who play undsciplined physical games.

I'm going to cling to the idea that this makes Rinaldo an even more attractive trade target to Burke.

Yeah, this signing makes little sense.

I think you guys are being a little hard on Rinaldo. Good energy guy, great hitter, fastest skater on the team.

More than the signing, it's the timing. There was no need to rush. How many teams would toss an offer sheet at Rinaldo?

Im with you on this Bill. This is the best time to play these teams. I think we'll be fine.
- GOA88

Ah, optimism, so rare to read that on the Flyers thread these days! It's an 82 game season, and it all evens out. Play them early or play them late, still need to play them at some point.

And he's got almost no skill.

You can get guys like Rinaldo a dime a dozen in the AHL.

Undisciplined guy who takes twice as many penalties as he draws, can't score or play defense well, not skilled....but yeah he hits and skates fast.

They (the coaches and front office) clearly see more in Rinaldo than we do. I don't get it.

He can't hang on to the puck, he can't produce points, he can't kill penalties, and he takes way more penalties than he draws. And that totally unnecessary headshot in a blowout against Buffalo means he's a disciplinary target going forward.

He apparently is NHL material. Has been in the league over 3 season now......

Why do you think the Flyers re-signed him then?

By that measure, Jeff Finger, Michael Leighton and Randy Jones were NHL material, too.

So has Colton Orr. Doesn't mean he's a good hockey player.

So where would we get our toughness from? Cant be an easy team to play against. Rosehill? White? C'mon... what options do we have? He is an enforcer that can actually skate.

First, he's not an enforcer. He's an agitator. Second, they can find toughness elsewhere, in a guy that can actually play hockey. Third, I don't think an enforcer is needed, especially if it's one who can't play a regular shift.

The Flyers are an easier team to play against with Rinaldo in the lineup. The other teams get to feast on a 4th line that can't keep control of the puck.

I felt that Rinaldo regressed as a player last season, and I have doubts about his hockey sense. I'd like him to develop some other parts of his game to be a more useful player, such as become a more selective hitter, improve his discipline, and become a better defensive forward. I didn't see much of that happening last season. But I'm not going to post a bunch of hyperbole that he has no skill, and every thing about him is negative. He does have some viable skill, or he would've never made it to the NHL, and he certainly wouldn't have been re-signed to a two way deal. He has some work to do, to become better, but there is some potential there.

We must watch a different sport. Rinaldo can no doubt throw his fists. He can land huge checks and he skates fast. He has been improving his overall game. He is undiciplined at times but every team needs a guy like Rinaldo. Relax.... He's only a 4th liner doing what a 4th liner does. You guys expect him to be a scorer!!!

And that's all due to Rinaldo?
