What makes lucky when Mason does it but skill when another goalie does it?
a goalie doing that 1 game and getting really hot..thats luck.
a goalie making saves like that over the course of a season is more of a pattern.

I'm not so much worried about Mason..offense, defense and everything else on the other hand..

Think he's in Simon Gagne territory... injuries really killed his career.

How are they lucky? The Boucher save on Elias was lucky. The save by Rinne's backup on Raffl was lucky. Going post-to-post for saves is one of Mason's strong points.

I thought it was to allow for generating more forechecking and therefore, more offense.

I'm OK with getting rid of this rule if only to encourage more teams to carry the puck as opposed to dumping it in.

On the contrary, I thought Mason only rarely had to rely on "lucky saves" last season. His mechanics were excellent most of the season. When he did have rely on his athleticism, he got over quickly and took away a lot of net.

I agree. Goaltending is very much a technical position. Even when going hard side to side, technique is used in how to push off, where to have the glove and pads positioned, etc. It's not just throw yourself over there randonmly in most cases.

We already have a #7. If a dman is traded, Schultz is still probably the #7 with a guy like Lauridsen/Alt in the top-6 (depending on who went).

That's a lot if assuming IMHO. Depends on timing and how they look this year. It could happen but the kids could also not be ready. Not saying Tallinder is the answer but out of the left over defensive D men he is a serviceable #7. McBain would be serviceable if a puck mover was needed.
