Yeah but it's a long drawn out process for what everyone knows will happen anyway. I think if a player misses over a year to injury they should be able to retire, regardless of age, with no cap penalty to the team. - Jeropotato
If Savard retires there is no penalty. A penalty only applies on a 35+ contract. Savard is under that age therefore he can retire without hurting the club. He is simply staying on the Roster to get paid. |

And it was bs for you guys as well. It's bad enough to lose a player of Pronger and Savards calibre but then you have to make all these symbolic moves to manage the cap. I understand why it's handled that way, but there has got to be a better system for dealing with long term and career ending injuries. - CubanBuffet
Like I pointed out to Jeropotato. It is not 35+ contract, he can retire with no negative effects on the team. If he was over 35 like Pronger then you are stuck with him. Flyers got screwed because Holmgren did not understand the rule and thought that it did not apply since Pronger was 34 at the time the contract was signed however the contract started at 35 years old. The deal was made long to lower the cap hit and it backfired. |

I guess where I get stuck is that it makes no distinction between a player retiring before their term has expired because both the player and the team never intended to play out the term and just wanted to lower their cap hit and a player retiring because of an injury. I would have assumed that some sort of agreement could be reached where in situations where both the player and team are willing to honour the contract bit can't because of forces out of their control, in this case injury.

Haven't seen any pics or vids of Prongs lately. I wonder if getting to be a fat pig like Adam Deadmarsh yet? |

I see pretty much a 0% chance of JB for Yak straight up deal happening.
a) It's an overpay by the Oilers
b) The Oil wouldn't want just a single year of JB
c) Yak certainly doesn't even seem like an ideal fit for the B's
I guess stranger things have happened ... in Edmonton, but I don't see this as being even a semi-realistic fantasy proposal.

He brings an element I see the Oilers sorely lacking in the top-6. With the additions of Pouliot, Purcell, and Perron over the last 2 years, the team has addressed some of it's needs up front, but I believe they're lacking another 2-way workhorse. I see Eriksson as that guy.
Hall- RNH- Perron (top line Vs. top line)
Eriksson- Arco- Purcell (big wingers support not-so-ideal 2C against secondarys)
Pouliot- LD- Yakupov (soft minutes line)
Hendricks- Gordon- Lander (defensive heavy-lifting)
Fayne- Petry
Nikitin- Boychuk
Ference- Schultz
Aulie
(allows Marincin, Klefbom, and Nurse to stay down)
That would just be grand - MaximumBone

I saw Rielly play at the super series during the lockout. Hands down the best player on the ice. I don't know about the other two, but that kid is going to be a star. |

Yeah, JB probably isn't worth the 1st overall pick in any draft, but thanks for your 2 pennies. |

I bet Boston moves Boychuk for a 2nd and a decent prospect

Rielly could be a future Norris winner. AT the draft, I was kinda upset Galchenyuk didn't fall to us. Pretty happy with the way things turned out for sure! |

That's sounds about right, for a TDL deal, might fetch a hair more if it happens Before the season starts, which is unlikely. |

Rielly to me looks like the crown Jewel of the Leafs. Figured the kid was all flash and dash but towards the end of the season he looked like a seasoned pro in the few games I saw. Lots of effective effort in his own zone. I could see him as a top D man in the NHL in a few years. Gardiner stands about as much chance at winning a Norris as Justin Schultz. |

If Boychuck signs an extension first, sure. Yak's busting anyways... - bluepulasky
I still was holding out hope for Yakupov, but if a Leafs fan says he's a bust...
I mean, WHO would better recognize a bust than a Leafs fan? |
