I think the Rangers, Bruins, Pens and probably Carolina look worse. The Devils, Caps might be the same, or a little better or worse. tough to call. The Caps made two brutal UFA signings that probably won't make them better. |

Trade your goalie, buyout best dman. Yup they're bound to be better. - burn
Absolutely.
And with the defensive depth of Gorges and Meszaros, they are just guaranteed to be world beaters |

I think that Pittsburgh will be a bit more well-rounded this year, and Ehrhoff will help a lot. Greiss will also be a good backup for them. |

"How could the Leafs be any better than they were last year? Seems like a holding pattern. Everything is the same."
Frattin,Santiorelli, Kontiola, Komarov, Holland, Booth,Winnik, Robidas and Polak are all players that were not on the leafs opening day roster last season.
How is 50% turnover among the forwards and 30% among the d-men staying the same?
Sabres fans deserve their expansion team - GardinerExpress
All of the players you listed? They're not very good. It's why most are on one year deals. |

Well, they were clearly brought in to be bottom-six guys, with short contracts as a) motivation to play hard, and b) incentive for the kids that there is a spot to play for if they excel on the Marlies.
I think that it's a bit too early to say that they won't be good, especially when you consider that the 87 points put up by Holland - Santorelli - Winnik - Booth last year is about the same as was put up by the combination of Eller, Bourque, Bournival, Prust, Wiese and White. |

So you judge guys on their deals and not facts?
Santonelli and Winnik both scored more than Kulemin last season. Are the Leafs fools for not keeping him and giving him 4 years? I call that smart cap management. They're making a quarter of what he is with better stats.

To be honest though, if I you offered me to exchange Kulemin and his deal for Clarkson and his deal I'd snap your hand off like a Uruguayan soccer player - lumlums
I would too, but we were talking about guys like Santonelli and Winnik not being good because they have 1 year deals. That's b.s
Clarkson=terrible cap management. Santonelli, Booth, Winnik=Excellent cap management. |

I think that since Shanny brought Dubas in, there's not been a single move that I don't like |

We all know that if JVR plays on the second line Clarkson can't.
We can't have two guys in front of the net.
If Kadri can develop chemestry with JVR that line would be very good. It's just a big if. I guess it dosnt hurt trying it in pre season.
And I think we have established Kessel can play with anyone and put up points. - JVR_42_PK81
JVR does not stand in front of the net. He doesn't pay the price.

I actually really like the revamping of the 3rd and 4th lines (Komarov contract is cray-cray, but what'evs).
But we are still waiting to see if Kadri can continue to improve and if the entire defence is good enough.
It's the uncertainty that unites us all. |

Sometimes. He also stands directly between the point shot and the goalie and screens and/or tries for a tip. He scored a bunch of goals that way. |

We are getting further and further from the original point: JVR and Clarkson could coexist on a line.
If Clarkson can get his poop together, of course.
Yeah - pretty big "if." |

Agreed, it isn't an accident that Lupus and JVR both had career years with Kessel. Both fairly similar in game style. - AdamFrench

I think JVR's game provides a lot of flexibility but I would be reluctant to break up the top line. I also think that if Clarkson is playing well, he is spending time in front of the net where JVR works well.
A lot of his gaols came from there.

I agree that Komorov's contract is a wee bit too much. 2-2.5 mil would if been perfect. But hey, he's an exciting player to watch an he is a pest. An element we solely missed last year |

If it's me deciding I keep the top line together. I think after it's all said an done it will be together by opening night. I would still like to see JVR with Kadri in the pre season. Just to see what happens. |

Kessel with Lupul was pretty good too.
My wish this year is to see Kadri with Kessel on the 1st PP unit. |

Kessel with anyone is pretty good. Kessel was good with Joey Crabb and Bozak(when he was in his low twenties)
I don't think they will do that. My wish would to put Gardiner with Phaneuf and Rielly with Franson on the PP. |
