Oduya would be a solid pickup for a lot of teams, Toronto and Edmonton included.
- Blazed

Is he a top pair D man? Edmonton has 4 second pair Dmen already.

I would deal Stepan and Miller for him. Stepan isn't all that great and Miller is 50/50 whether he pans out. JT/Brassard/Lombardi or Moore/Lindberg or Hayes is solid down the middle. A breath of fresh air could be good for him, plus he's close with Nash.

def would entice the Sharks but doesn't fit under your cap.....

All the FA Centers the NYR bring in have done very little... Stepan's numbers have only gone up. Also he had his best season playing with Nash a few years back. Kid is only going to get better, and we all know bringing the FA center here flops.

I take my chances with Stepan. No thanks to Joe if Stepan goes the other way.

It wouldn't work anyhow under the cap... But I did hear a Nash for Jumbo but SJ turned it down.

Only Nash or others w/$$$ makes sense in a trade but SJ wouldn't be interested in Nash, Brassard, etc....

Can't see Joe waiving his NTC except to go to Anaheim. He wants to stay in California and the Ducks have a real chance at the Cup. Just what they'd be prepared to give in return is the question. Joe's age is a concern but he's still highly effective.
Don't see L.A. willing to break up their winning group for Joe, so that's why I say the only option for Joe if he wants out now is Ana.

3 years I know , but this is Joe Thornton. Guy keeps putting up points without any major dips. He'll be good for 60+ points with good line mates the rest of the contract I bet.

Moot point.

- Jeropotato

so an aging guy good for 60 points is worth the haul you mentioned?

60 points at the end of his deal. Still think he's good for 70-80 next year with decent line mates and lesser competition if he's a 2nd liner. Still a top 10 NHL Center.

Edit: and dont even try and say that in the here and now, Joe Thornton wouldn't be the 2nd best player on your team.

Thornton with JVR and Kessel scares me. He needs to stay the (frank) out of this division.

Eklund: Thornton Situation Can't End Well
- Eklund

I think the Sharks should consider moving one of Thornton or Marleau anyway. To me Toronto is a stupid team but Toronto should be watching closely here and trying to pick up one. When they had Sundin last, he had nothing around him. Now it seems like the one thing they could probably use is a Sundin to get back over that hump.

Thornton isn't waiving for (frank) all, and even if he did San Jose isn't giving him away for peanuts. If I had to pick 5 teams they would all be in the East and have a shot at least at being a playoff team.
New York Rangers- Derek Brassard +,+
New York Islaners- Anders Lee and Brock Nelson
Habs- Galchenyuk ,+
Flyers- Schenn Brothers, +
Leafs- Khadri +Gardiner

- Jeropotato

I don't even think Thornton worth Galchenyuk straight up.

The biggest thing impacting the return for a premier talent like Thornton is the NMC. Whomever he might choose to waive to has the ability to say take it or leave it. Works the opposite of a bidding war.
If he said "Leafs only", the Sharks would have to settle for Lupol and Franson at best.

*Waits for Leafs fans to argue that it's an overpay.

- Jeropotato

I'd do Jumbo for Lupul and franson in a heartbeat...but it's not happening

That is just total foolishness. Couture is great defensive player as well as a very good guy on the attack. It is ludicrous to suggest any kind of equivalence between Kadri and Couture.
- spatso

Everybody is entitled to there opinion. .i would rank kadri with his offence ,grit and speed same as couture in value although couture is defensively better but not as much of a threat offensively or doesn't get under the skin as mess up the opposing players like kadri does, I really couldn't pick one over the other at this point

Saying he's on par with Couture is overvaluing him.

Holy (frank), how about you take a poll?

I watch every game, I said I like Kadri, he's far from great though

Just because he's a leaf doesn't mean I don't see the good and bad.

So he's a scoring god and he's wicked defensively.......right????!

- Garnie

He is offensively gifted, will be top 15 in scoring played with a lot of heart and grit, I think you need to smoke a poll and watch another few leaf games

Pay attention to team needs. San Jose has very good strength down the middle. They are okay on the wings. Okay in net. But, very much needing some help with their depth on defense. So the team that gets Thornton, if he is traded, is the team that offers up a solid D man or a young Dman who has clear top 4 potential.

Bolded part - That's for sure...

But honestly lets put this debate to rest bc Kadri has the potential but hasn't lived up to it yet. Couture is the much better player, Kadri is still an enigma to the Leafs as they have no idea what type of player he is or becoming. I'm a Kadri fan but stop this debate w/him & Couture bc its not even close (right now).

That would be just stupid..we have a couture (kadri) we are keeping JVR
- Daddichronic

I'd take couture over any player on the leafs.
