That is just total foolishness. Couture is great defensive player as well as a very good guy on the attack. It is ludicrous to suggest any kind of equivalence between Kadri and Couture. - spatso
There is not some massive difference between Couture and Kadri. That's silly. Couture is overrated if anything. |

Stripping Thornton of the "C" is smoke and mirrors. Once again, Doug Wilson is doing nothing and staying status quo after everyone thought big changes were coming. This is actually pathetic. |

Couture plays in the non hockey market so he'll escape all criticism. |

Where was Pavelski and Couture the final four games? They had three goals between them the whole series, they weren't good enough!!! - LeftCoaster
I have mentioned that before in a different discussion.
time and time again I have heard comments about Hall, Nuge, Ebs and the losing culture they are being brought up in, unlike Couture and Pavelski. Makes me wonder if this winning culture in San Jose has made things a bit too easy on the young Sharks? Where's their second gear?
Not saying the Oulers situation is better in the long term, but there might be something to be said about learning through tough times that will benefit the kids in the long run. ( see;Joe Sakic and the Quebec Nordiques).
That's my hope anyway. |

I think Joe was just told he will not be playing for the Islanders and being in Brooklyn in a year. |

Sorry sometimes I'm not sarcastic enough... I just meant, had we not signed Kovalchuk, couldve had Parise potentially and at least he wouldn't have bailed on the team mid-contract and we would most likely have made the playoffs last year with his theoretic contribution |

on what planet do the Isles give up two very very good young players for an aging center? How in any way does this help the Isles? It guts us of 2 out of the top 3 of our young forward prospects. We're set up front this season, we need another defenseman, not an old forward that plays a position we don't need. silly as hell. - Isles_since_6
Sure, you don't have to like it, but Thornton is way more effective than either of those guys. I get the asset management arguement but you're only kidding yourself if you think you will win more games with those guys than with Joe .
I like what the Isles are doing but if you think you're 'set' with those guys than you have me confused. Set for what? A division Championship? Conference title? Stanley Cup?
Joe Thornton would be the 2nd best player on your team. |

Thornton isn't waiving for (frank) all, and even if he did San Jose isn't giving him away for peanuts. If I had to pick 5 teams they would all be in the East and have a shot at least at being a playoff team.
New York Rangers- Derek Brassard +,+
New York Islaners- Anders Lee and Brock Nelson
Habs- Galchenyuk ,+
Flyers- Schenn Brothers, +
Leafs- Khadri +Gardiner - Jeropotato

3 years left on his deal, manageable cap hit, and looks like he will continue to be a consistent 60-70 point player. He was 13th in scoring last year. Sure the 100 pts days are over , but he's hardly a washed up scrub.
On most teams he will still be the 2nd or 3rd most productive player, if not the most. |

The last thing the Isles need to do is give up more very promising power forward types like in the past. Isles are fine on offense and should be focused on a top 4 dman. Getting that one top 4 dman to go along with the improved goalies and forward depth will go a long way. Team has a chance to make the playoffs and maybe win a round with a solid top 4 dman. |

I have no ide what he will get, but I am certain it would be similar to what Columbus got for Rick Nash. |
