(frank) I loved kovalchuk that was disgraceful what he did and I'm not to pleased with parise saying pretty much all the way up to the day e signed with suter that his number one goal was to sign with the devils and yada yada yada but I am glad we didn't give him that money as he is not a pure goal scorer and will rapidly slow down before even half that contract is up he is and was literally a glorified grinder and a decent leader who never took a shift off but way to much money - blizzzard
Agreed. Parise is a great player in the same way Brian Gionta is. Has it all except that game breaking offense players in his tax bracket usually possess.
Basically, the perfect Minnesota Wild player. |

I wouldn't trade you B Schenn alone for him. His value has never been lower, especially with this situation. Should have traded him earlier in the summer for Phenuef or whatever you could get. I agree with EK (I have never written that before in 10 years of posting on this site). This is a bad move by SJ management. At this point I would trade Marleau since I think his value is still fair and I would do it ASAP. - coffee junkie
Armstrong is basically playing the situation all wrong. If you want changes you handle it like a pro and stfu about it, quietly work out a deal and try to respectfully get Joe to cooperate. This reeks of the Tambellini-Sheldon Souray situation, and we all know how well that worked out for Edmonton. |

Kovalchuk sort of (frank)ed you guys over. - Garnie
Sort of? We only couldn't sign Parise... Did he ever end up panning out? He definitely wouldn't have helped us score any goals or anything last year like we needed, right? |

He is a great worker for young kids to watch and see the effort needed to put in but yea is an around the net type guy and not a guy who does it on his own and he doesn't need to there with the guys there but that's a lot of money for someone who might be on the second line in a year or two |

Thornton isn't waiving for (frank) all, and even if he did San Jose isn't giving him away for peanuts. If I had to pick 5 teams they would all be in the East and have a shot at least at being a playoff team.
New York Rangers- Derek Brassard +,+
New York Islaners- Anders Lee and Brock Nelson

on what planet do the Isles give up two very very good young players for an aging center? How in any way does this help the Isles? It guts us of 2 out of the top 3 of our young forward prospects. We're set up front this season, we need another defenseman, not an old forward that plays a position we don't need. silly as hell.

Lol at least Parise would've stayed on the team, I don't think him or Clarky were worth the gigantic fortunes they've amassed... But far better than Kovy! Hockey salaries have gone down from 10 years ago, or so I heard...
And Oprah isn't even equal value

You could tell Duk didn't feel comfortable being the C, he always came off as a wall flower type of guy.
As soon as they put the C on him, it basically ended his career since he just couldn't live up to Sakic and Footes leadership and was trying way too hard out there.

In 2002 Bobby Holik signed a 5 year $45 million dollar contract. Let that one sink in. |

It's funny because Thornton never felt like captain material to me. Doesn't have a whole lot of fight when things go sideway. |

Maybe I'm the minority but I think Burns would be a good captain. Granted his goes to sleep from time to time too with his play, so his play might not be leading by example. But seems like a respect and well liked guy around the league who might cave your face in if you try and pull some shenanigans on the ice.
Side Avs note, are you excited about getting Vincour to come over? I think it doesn't hurt, even if he doesn't make the team and is claimed off waivers,. |

Eklund: Thornton Situation Can't End Well - Eklund
"Has an NHL team's decision to strip a player of the captaincy EVER had a positive outcome for the team and player alike?"
Ek, for someone who talks about how they have always liked the Sharks, you seem to have a pretty poor knowledge about them. All you needed to do was look back a few years at this same Sharks team and think about Marleau being stripped of the captaincy. The Sharks took the "C" away from Marleau and then he put up a career high in goals (44) and the Sharks made it to to back to back conference finals for the first time ever. |
