2.9 on a one year. 3.4 on a 2 year.

What team trades a 2C before camp? What team trades centers after like July 15th?

- DTF69

None, actually. You mentioned the inability to trade for a 2C. I don't actually think it will happen unless LD is sent down and Arco/Lander both struggle.
Either way, if we do get a legit 2C mid season, it will Likely be for a player like Petey in return.

I suspect after camp we could see some action. Or during for that matter. There are quite a few teams with young centers coming up that could force their way onto the big club.

Austin Watson has a good camp does NSH cut ties with a vet in Matt Cullen who makes 3.5 and is a team who looks to save money?

PHI has Schenn, Couturier, and Laughton to go with Giroux and Vinny. Could one of those become available?

How about Dallas Spezza, Seguin, Eakins, Fiddler and Horcoff. Granted I see Horcs on waivers, but what happens if Faska throws his name into the mix?

True, I just have a different definition of a #2.

A lot of those guys are #4's, which wouldn't be a bad thing for the Oilers.

I bet Philly is going to try to sell Vinny as hard as they can and I can easily see Schenn back on the wing and same with Laughton.

I can see Dallas playing Faksa on the wing if he makes the team as they have a hole on the left side in the top 6. Then roll a Scevior-Horcoff-Fiddler-Cole mix 4th line.

I don't think we'll get a true #2, but with our wingers we can afford to take a lessor guy. A true #2 isn't our biggest concern anyway.

Honestly, if they could get a guy like Cullen for the #3/4 spot then it's not the end of the world having LEON! at #2

Its how thin it is with Leon, Arco and Lander taking up 2 of 4 spots

I have no idea why its 1 year at too much money.

You'd think 2 years with some extra money or 1 year at lower money but more chance at future pay.

But no. I just don't know why they do this because it really makes next summer a bit of a shenanigan and gives them no room this summer to fit in a trade for a center

Not as much as you may think

If Yak, Marincin, and Schultz have excellent seasons, 12 million can be kissed away, leaving us with 6 mill to work with to:

- resign Petry or a replacement

- sign a UFA centre

Like Poti 13 years ago, one has to wonder if the Oilers will give up on Schultz.

Maybe what we need to do is not give up on potential, but use the guy to his fullest. He really does bring some attributes that no one else does, so why not use him to his best ability instead of trying to make him something he isn't?

- Lahey

use him like Yandle is used. Soft ES comp and deployment, big time on what should be a better PP

I find it highly unlikely that we will be doing either next year anyway.

The Oilers PP lacks any shooting threat. Hall is pretty well it. Even Eberle isn't much considering how often he passes up a gift one timer to fake shot and try the pass back across traffic.

it's possible a centre could emerge from a prospect system and surprise his way on to a roster making another C expendable. Maybe Jenner looks good at C and they're open to dealing Anisimov. Maybe Faksa or Glennie look good enough to be 3C and they're open to dealing Eakin. etc.

Yakupov has the potential to be. Just have to utilize him appropriately and make sure he hits the net, which I think he can do.

Schultz has a great wrister and a decent slapper but didn't really use it until late late in the year. Nikitin's supposed to have a big shot. Also Ramsay taking over the PP should help

Imagine how thin it will be when Leon gets the ol' Oilers freak injury for getting rushed into the NHL.

You're never officially an Oiler until you've blown out a shoulder, played through the injury to battle for 3rd last and then had surgery that cuts into your training at time in camp because you had to play to compete for 3rd last.

Rangers have an overflow of NHL ready centers with Stepan, Brassard, Miller, Lindberg, Lombardi, Moore, and Hayes. Make a bid on one of em.
