Here's a better idea; don't value your life based off of whether you have a girlfriend or not. It's fine to want someone to care about (and (frank)), but chances are pretty good that you'll end up hating anyone you "get with" now.

See, I'm a complex guy, and my wires are crossed in such a way that I am basically only attracted to crazy chicks. Now, crazy girls are bad, but when you get older and start to date crazy women....it's a whole other level.

My point is he shouldn't settle into something just for the sake of having a girlfriend. It's highschool. He likely doesn't really even know who he is or what he likes in women yet (I know I didn't at that time) and those are two very important things to know before getting involved with anyone else you run the risk of needlessly hurting both yourself and the other.
