I was at the calg-van game in van on March 8th (I think) quite a few brews in me obviously, and on one shift I remember bouma blocking, literally no joke, at least 5 shots. I think he might have only been credited for like 2 on the whole game. I was chanting his name, and subsequently wasn't shanked because all the bandwagon van fans had already given up on the season lol

Seriously....there was a few times last year Bouma brought the crowd to it's feet after a couple shifts. Awesome!

Yeah man, so awesome. He is the epitome of what we need on this team. Just hard nosed, never give up attitude. It rubs off on all the guys around you.

Shocking, neh a positive word to be found towards one of our players. But yes, you should hope some of your players get to where he is. Bouma certainly isn't an elite skilled type forward, well, he's certainly no Taylor Hall. But he brings something that any team with championship hopes needs, functional toughness and balls to the wall heart and soul. THAT is something you guys have been missing for some time.

wasn't saying he wasn't.

Clutterbuck led the league in hits by a huge margin in minny, and was a workhorse. I see a lot of bouma in that style

I think in that same game he got hit by the puck on the bench.

He blocks shots while not even on the ice! who doesn't want a guy with that work ethic

Minnesota stat keepers tend to fudge numbers to make their players look better.

One of those items that doesn't get talked about much. The stat keepers are employed by the team and not the league. There is very little guidance or oversite on "What is considered a hit" or "what is considered a blocked shot". At least there wasn't about 4-5 years ago.

Clutterbuck did hit a lot but you just saw some of his "hits" and they were just contact.

stats like that at canucks games are way off as well.

but its expected. doesn't change my point since clutterbuck racked up hits last year as well.

Colin,

I think a good idea for a blog is who will get the remaining 'A'

Gio is the captain and Glenx is our 'A'.

Will it be rotated through the lineup?
Will there be a home 'A' and an away 'A'.

Will Backlund get it? Or even Brodie?

Would you hold off specifically to see how Mono does is in the dressing room?

Would you go for the safe bet and give it to Stajan?

I have a feeling it will be stajan and glenX. Brodie and backland need to focus on another strong consistent year before they have to deal with other things

I could see it being split between Stajan and Backlund. Stajan for away games and Backlund for home games.

Whether expansion actually becomes a reality or not, the recent rumours put an interesting thought in my head. In an expansion draft who would the Flames look to protect?

In 2000, the option was to protect either one goaltender, five defensemen, and nine forwards or two goaltenders, three defensemen, and seven forwards.
What would your protected list look like?

Note: Exempt from the Expansion Draft are (i) all first and second-year pros and (ii) unsigned draft choices (except unsigned draft choices drafted from European clubs [drafted at least 4 years ago] and who remain unsigned).

Anticipating that the expansion draft would occur in the summer of 2016, Monahan, Johnny Hockey, Poirier, Granlund, Arnold, Reinheart, Wotherspoon, and Agostino would all be entering their 3rd or even 4th professional seasons so they'd all need to be protected.

Obviously, trying to do this a full season out involves a fair bit of crystal-ball gazing, but I think it's still fun.

My best guess would be:

1 Goalie: Ortio
5 Defensemen: Giordano, Brodie, Wotherspoon, Sieloff, Billins
9 Forwards: Monahan, Baertschi, Gaudreau, Poirier, Backlund, Granlund, Reinheart, Agostino, Klimchuk

A ton of our young kids signed pro contracts and played games either with Abby or with the Flames last year right at the end of the season. Unfortunately, I think that would expose them all to an expansion draft, forcing us to protect all of the young potential, and leaving our vets open to being poached by other teams.
