You got to curtail that Colin guy writing about the Leafs. Today it was Clarkson and not only are comments just blather his writing skills are that of a 5th grade student in the slow learners class. That said, he knows nothing. - sacredquest
You've. You've got to curtail that Colin guy. Class dismissed.

Don't worry about it, you're an excellent writer, despite the teams you choose to write for. |

truth be told, I get a chuckle out of it. I don't expect everyone to agree with me or enjoy my writing...but there's something to be said about those who take the time to comment about it in such a way |

Not happening. Much as I would love to have a local team to cheer for, the population base still just isn't there. Biggest city in the province is a 3rd of the size of Winnipeg for (frank)s sake. - BINGO!
I agree but let's be honest, the province is closing in on 1.2 million people. This is a hockey mad province. A Saskatchewan team, regardless of our population, would be a bigger success than many of the American franchises out there today. |

Hate to burst your bubble but Long Island (just Nassau and Suffolk Counties) a simple suburb of NYC has a population of around 9 Million. What causes success is winning. Also, relative marketability in terms of wealth of the demographics. If the median income isn't high enough, your not gonna make a lot of money either. |

Weekly wages in Saskatchewan are the 2nd highest in Canada, and it has the lowest unemployment at less than 3.5% |

No it wouldn't.
First of all, where would they play? The CUC is too small (Sasktel Centre now, I guess.) and we already spent $300 million on a new football stadium in Regina. Good luck convincing Saskatoon to spend that on an arena for a team that doesn't yet exist.
Secondly, Saskatoon is a terrible sports city. Amateur sports and Huskies football does great, but the Blades? Blades attendance is embarrassingly lower than it should be even when compared to what the Broncos draw here in Speedy Creek. |

Using prairie teams/provinces as comparisons are more appropriate for this conversation. Wealth and demographics aren't big issues in Saskatchewan but the arena and consistent crowds are.
Saskatchewan has one "professional" sports franchise in the Regina-based Saskatchewan Roughriders. They trail only the Leafs and Habs in terms of merchandise sales in Canada and draw well over 30,000 on a regular basis. This is attainable because we're only talking about 9 home games (plus playoffs) per season. Pro hockey, of course, is considerably more and would likely require fans to travel from outside the city (let's say Saskatoon - fastest growing city in Canada) in poor winter conditions. That said, I couldn't imagine a more appreciative fan base anywhere. Certainly, this isn't attainable in the short-term but, eventually, this needs to happen. |
