They're supposed to build most of it in wood too. Encourages the Québec economy, it's usually cheaper, and I believe it's more durable and easier to repair than concrete. It's the new trend nowadays to build all in wood, and unlike what Concrete people will tell you, it's not that much more dangerous for Fires.

I'm no civil engineer, but a friend of mine is and that's what he told me. Concrete melts and can burn, it's not much safer than wood. And it's a lot more trouble to replace. If a plank is broken or rotten, you take it out and replace it. If there's a crack too dangerous on Concrete, you have to destroy the wall and build a new one. Wood is cheaper in almost every possible way, and it's not necessarily less durable nor more dangerous for Fires if you're careful enough.

They do what's best for them and their industry, can't blame 'em to defend their product. But from what I understand it's not considered to be the best product anymore for such buildings. I don't know about skyscrapers though, I have my doubts for wooden ones.

Friend of mine works for his father and his uncle who have a company that do the footings for big buildings and basements for houses/appartment buildings. His love for concrete can be too much. He sees concrete EVERYWHERE

'I could put a slab here for my fire place'

'Oh yeah and here we could have a gazebo on a concrete slab'

Concrete does not melt, it loses mass when it's exposed to heat that will have burned any wooden structure..

A crack in concrete can be replaced with époxy injection or carbon fiber pannels.

Wood is more dangerous or fires and will cause the fire to spread quicker. You'll need more sprinklers and more emergy exits in your building.

It's cheaper , versatile and pretty durable. Requires more maitenance.
