So he couldn't even make a weak WJC team?
ouch. - prock
Any team that picks a 6'1 Chris "minus-12-with-like-15-points-in-30-games-at-the-time" Bigras over a point per game, positive rated, physical, 6'4 Dman who plays 30 minutes/night can suck my cock. |

This thread is pretty funny....but then so is the formula for blog hits on HB.
All you have to do is:
A) Make a Maple Leafs prediction so outlandish that it attracts the masses.
B) Compare the Leafs to any other Franchise.
C) Mention the Leafs - Jeropotato
A recipe for ultimate success is pitting the two biggest fanbases on HB (Oilers and Leafs) against eachother. Well done, Pete! |

Leave Bigras out of this, hes actually a pretty promising Dman, more Adam Foote like put a better skater.
Nurse is more dynamic and trust me I was just as suprised as you were when Bigras got the nod over Nurse |

I was surprised about Nurse being excluded as well. To me he checks off a lot of boxes team canada likes, especially on the big ice surface. I would say he is as good of a skater, if not better, than any Dman named to the team. That and he's tougher/grittier.
He can play a shut down game as well, which may have been beneficial during Reinhart's absence. I think he would've been a good partner with Ekblad.

Yeah, don't get me wrong; I like what little I've seen of Bigras as well, but with how their respective season's were going, Nurse should've been picked. This is prock we're talking about, though. Not worth the time we spend refuting statements. |

Look just because you think you, your average (at best) HB poster, knows hockey better than the Team Canada braintrust, doesn't make it so. Some of the best minds in the game thought Nurse =/= Team Canada caliber. Now some here claim to know better and call him a surefire Norris winner.

What gets people wound up is that most of the things I post are completely true and can be fully supported. Call it trolling if you like, but that’s what really gets to them.
Jaeckel or whatever called Anderson a “really good” goalie the other day. Sens fans call it a great signing.
If some tried to claim Bernier/Varlamov/Bobrovski were better goalies, you’d get the argument that they’re unproven.
Anderson is 33 years old. He’s never played more than 31 games and posted a sv% better than .917 in the same season.
33 years old and “unproven”. Now tell me he’s a “very good goalie”.
They can’t come up with a good argument against that, and it pisses them off.

Considering the teams he played on 917% is pretty good. |

sv% is a ratio. more shots does not equate to a worse sv% unless more goals are scored on those shots. It's not nearly as team dependant as you may like to think. If you do a little looking around, you’ll find several goalies, if not most, that manage better sv%s on worse teams. Some of Luongo’s best numbers came in Florida. Schneider did just fine in Jersey this year. etc, etc. In fact, if you study the correlation between more shots/worse team to goalie sv%, you'll probably be a little surprised at the results.
But, if you want to pull that card, Bernier and Bobrovski aren’t exactly playing for world beating teams and they still manage fine. And the jury is still out on Varlamov.
So it’s not an excuse.
And even if it were, none of that would show that’s he a proven “very good goaltender”. You can speculate all you like that he’d be a “very good goalie” behind a better team over a full season, but it’s still just speculation.
You’re kind of like them. You can’t refute what I’m saying. It frustrates them.

All you re giving is opinion and using one stat as the evidence. Its hard to dispute something that is an opinion, goaltending stats are based around team play as well as individual play you cant argue that fact.
Of course Schneider did well in New Jersey they play a defensive game getting scored on wasn't the problem it was scoring goals.
Generally teams that give up a lot of shots have worse goaltending numbers because you pick out three does not support your argument it merely demonstrates that there is exception to every rule.
