Phoenix is absolutely not a better team without Vrbata. That's ridiculous.

Drouin gets my early vote. So much depends on line mates and D partners.

Drouin will win it if he's with Stamkos.

Ok, let's see if I got your logic down, we'll use Gagner as an example during the 2014 season:

Outcome A- Gagner finishes with >50 PTs.
Outcome B- Gagner finishes with <50 PTs.
Outcome C- Gagner finishes with <50 PTs but missed significant games.

Outcome A has never occurred in 7 chances(seasons), a 0% occurrence rate
Outcome B has occurred in all 7 seasons, or 100% occurrence rate
Outcome C has occurred in 2 of 7 seasons so about 29% occurrence

And from this Objective information you draw the conclusion that his chances of having a career season are even higher this year? I think your problem is you confuse logic and rational thought with the simple whims/wishes of a fan.
You certainly have to be a fan of your team to be their blogger but nobody will take you seriously if you also can't differentiate between the two.

You conveniently ignored the fact that there is a 48 game season in your sample to help prove your point.

What is a better measure in my opinion is the number of guys in the nhl who showed a lot of inconsistency in their point production during their early twenties and had break out type years in their mid twenties. It is far from unusual and actually quite common.

Moulson, M. Koivu are two examples. Perron is a guy who had remarkably similar ppg production at the same ages as Gagner.

You can’t rush development. Guys develop at their own pace.

He's slowing down. They are better off not paying him $5M a year to put up 45-50 points.

Not only is it not ridiculous, it's accurate, though somehow I doubt you read the explanation.

After seeing the electrifying moves by the front office this summer, I think the worst case scenario for the Yotes is slipping all the way to #3 in the 2015 draft.

Well sure for a UFA who is 28/29, when you are buying 3-4 years of good production and potentially you have to add a couple risky years into a players' mid-thirties to get the contract signed.

Not a good contract for a 33-year old guy with more downside risk than upside potential, particularly for a team on a budget lower than the cap.

I am worried about their depth at forward.

I'm not excited about the chances of Erat bouncing back. Though at $2.2M in actual salary, I like the risk they took last year.

I like the chances of some of the younger players stepping up; but not everyone will and there will be injuries.

I would like to see them add a low cost forward with a little bit of goal scoring potential. Penner is the one guy I see out there that may work.

I don't really like the idea of adding Penner at all. He hasn't been very good lately. With Boedker, Hanzal, Domi, Erat, Gagner, Samuelson, Korpikoski, Doan, Vermette, I don't think their top 9 is as bad as people make it out to be. Plus, they have nice depth for the fourth line in Vitale, Klinkhammer, Macmillan (can move up) Chipchura etc.

Really, they make lack a star player or two, but they aren't as bad as people think. Plus, Boedker is a wild card because he can be a legit star. Same with Hanzal really.

I still wound't completely rule out a Yandle for a star forward trade as training camp gets going and trades start happening again.

I like how you just threw Nurse and draisaitl in their. they have no chance of calder even less then domi. Dumb fans, over value your players. Be realistic!!!
- hanleyaj

why?

both were drafted in a higher position than domi and thus have a better pedigree.

predicting calder winners is a crapshoot at the best of times; and im not even saying draisaitl or nurse are frontrunners by any means.

but you really don't have much past conjecture to make this comment. it's pure opinion and certainly isn't any 'smarter' or full of conventional wisdom than the post you called dumb.

domi could play top 6 and have a great year. or he could struggle at this level and get sent down. he's certainly no cant miss superstud like mackinnon.

draisiatl could be handed the 2nd line center position and play alongside david perron, hall, yakupov etc and have a huge year. or he could get sent down as he's not ready.
nurse could show flashes of what he did in last years camp and force his way onto a team that might breakout....or get sent down

opinions and guesswork is fine in a preseason calder prediction. but to call someone dumb for picking guys who are every bit as quality a prospect as the horse ur picking, is fuking weak.

u get the point I think...

I already edited my original post to basically include this, but ill say it again;

opinions and guesswork is fine in a preseason calder prediction. it's really all you can do with so many unknowns with these kids that haven't played much (if at all) in the show. but imo, it's fuking weak to call someone dumb or unrealistic for picking guys who are every bit as quality a prospect as the horse ur picking. and make no mistake; regardless of who one cheers for, draisaitl and nurse are every bit as bluechip as max domi.

I think drouin might be the only reasonably safe bet. and even he's a huge question mark with his size, age and the amount of playing time he may or may not get

I hardly picked them....I just stated that Domi will be competing with them. If I were to pick, I'd go with Drouin.

this is true. which lends even less credence to his already flawed post.

just made it easier to drive the point home by assuming which prospects we like or not

kuznetzov still qualifies, no?

if he does; there's a guy that has to be in the conversation. insanely talented, and had abit of success at this level already.

Well, actually i did not forget that point........That's why C accounted for seasons where he had fewer than 50 pts. but there were also SIGNIFICANT GAMES MISSED, I didn't say injury was the only reason why games could be missed. The two season i included in this category were last season(jaw injury) and the lockout season.

He's actually incorrect....it's the same reason you are horribly bad in arguing your points, you don't put in the time to actually look at the reality of what you're saying.....or reading.

That's the poster I know. You have an issue with Draisaitl but not with Reinhart?
- Jeropotato

The only way reinhart makes the team is if he is top six foward with powerplay time. If this happens he has a shot to win calder it would be a long shot but alot better then draisaitl. He is not ready for NHL espically with a poor defensive team like edmenton. Also Reinhart is alot better then Draisaitl.
