Sucks that he won't retire on his own terms in all likelihood. I didn't expect him back this year anyway though. Flyers are planning a special night for him I'm sure

I am searching for the Savon Sanomat article referenced in this story -- one with the specific diagnosis. Can't find it as of yet.

I'm actually happy they caught it now. He could have entered this season being one blocked shot off the foot away from dying.

I would pass on those guys as well. However, I have heard that Chad Larose wants to get back into the NHL, so that might be interesting. He was gritty, and seems determined at this time. I wouldn't mind seeing what he would bring to the table. Maybe sign him to a 2-way deal if he does well? I also hear that Nino Niederreiter is still negotiating with the Wild. That might be a wing option for G. He has speed, size, and is willing to go to the net.
Just thinking out loud

wait a minute, how did he end up out of the NHL to begin with, i missed that somehow
he always looked good against the flyers

No no no
I'd much rather give Akeson a long look.
Also Laughton is ready now IMO for NHL ice time but it has to be 3rd line minutes or better. I don't want to see Laughton only play 4th line minutes.[/img]

Pancake Houses, beware the Penner!

Happy b-day Simmonds! I want a goal for every year you've been on the planet.

I didn't know Powe was back in the organization. Good for him. And I can't wait to see some Phantoms games this season.

i broke down this specific play and failed execution by leighton earlier in the summer, and the 4 scenarios in which the reverse VH should be used. what you're seeing here is the aftermath of the shot. leighton executed late, in poor form, and in the wrong situation, i think because the shot surprised him. kane shot from the edge of the circle while he was moving, when it appeared he would either continue around the net or try to push toward the net. there was good coverage in front of the flyers goal and the lone hawk player there wasn't much of a threat for a pass or a rebound.

the goalie should already be down, with the proper seal, BEFORE the shot comes from a low-angle net drive below the bottom of the circle. leighton went down in this type of position as the shot was being taken.

not the worst goal in the world. it just sucks that it happened to be the SC winning goal in OT.

i broke down this specific play and failed execution by leighton earlier in the summer, and the 4 scenarios in which the reverse VH should be used. what you're seeing here is an AHL-caliber goalie starting in the SCF due to lack of organizational depth at the position. leighton executed late, in poor form, and in the wrong situation, i think because the shot surprised him. kane shot from the edge of the circle while he was moving, when it appeared he would either continue around the net or try to push toward the net. there was good coverage in front of the flyers goal and the lone hawk player there wasn't much of a threat for a pass or a rebound.

ftfy....all you need to know about this is the SC winning goalie was allowed to walk after the season because a) that org realized the only goalie he could have bested was the one he just beat and no other team would be fielding such a below average goalie and b) they had some guys in the system who were ready to step in

Ron Hextall says that Kimmo Timonen will be back in town today and that the Flyers will know more about his status soon.
