This is all hypothetical, but Halak hasnt been given a shot at a long playoff run since he was in MTL, where he carried them to the ECF

I think Halak is very underrated and they should have given him a shot this year in STL while he was healthy, but they panicked and went after Miller

If we let Crawford go and got Halak in that 4-4.5 mil range, I wouldnt be very disappointed at all

- FourFeathers773

Maybe we could trade Crawford to Winnipeg for Pavelec? He has never been given a shot at a long playoff run and his cap hit is only $3.9 million, we'd save $2.1 million instantly!

Goaltending is a position a GM needs to be careful with. Overpaying means you could be stuck with an underperforming goalie whom who can't move. Underpaying could mean your goalie isn't good enough for your team. The Blackhawks are a Cup contender, and leaving the starting goalie position to chance (i.e. signing a UFA) is a huge risk.

We have to give Stan some credit that he knows what he's doing. I highly doubt he gave Crawford $6 million / season without considering all the implications. Stan is a numbers guy, he knew what he was doing. Crawford's contract may not be a steal, but it's fair and as the cap rises if will get better.

When I was talking to Stan at an event we held last Thursday he told me they were going to make one move. I asked him of the Nick Leddy rumor and he smirked and said we have to make one move. Take that for what it is.

I guess we can't expect Stan to say much else to you. Whatever is done now to become cap compliant I don't think it will be Leddy that moves. My money is still on Rozsival.

Starting goalies get $6 million per year, that's just the going rate now. If Stan didn't give Crawford that contract he would have walked, then who would we be left with?

Mo, Curly And Larry?

I don't think there is any value in Rozsival. He did say they were making a move and that has to happen before the 1st of October. I've got the feeling that its Nick just from the conversation we had. No evidence but a gut feeling

Maybe you're right and time will tell. But I know there's no value in Rozsival, the benefit in trading #32 is the cap space, not the expected return. If we're making a Cup run this year Stan will want to make a move that has the least impact on the team and that's trading Rozsival.

Maybe a wheelchair team takes Rosival for 2 something million but I can't imagine anyone else paying that much. A warrior, sure, but he doesn't have the legs anymore. If they don't play him with Leddy he's really going to have a problem. Can't see him as the solution to the cap problem.

No thanks.

Mo - weak glove hand.

Curly - weak five hole.

Larry - mentally unstable.

If Stan trade's Rozsival I would expect nothing more than a 7th round pick (unless he trades with Calgary, then we'll get a 4th) or "future considerations". This is just the move to make us cap compliant to start the season, that doesn't mean that Oduya or Leddy can't be dealt later on.

Maybe a bottom feeder with cap room will take Rosival. But my problem with the whole thing is who "wants" to pay Rosival 2 something million. I hope it goes down like you have suggested, I just can't believe it till I see it kind of thing.

I have to admit that I get a little offended when you keep talking about how "fans" are hyping TT. I think that most Hawk fans that I know are excited about his potential but also realize that in order for that potential to be fulfilled he needs time in Rockford to play on the top or second line and get plenty of PP time to hone his skill at the pro level. Playing up on the Hawks in a 3rd or 4th line role with limited minutes wouldn't be beneficial for him or the team. So please change your assessments to read "some fans"

By the way nice interview with Eklund last week.

Couldn't they just place Rosival on IR for the year if they can't move him?

You only have to pay Rozsival $1.75 million but his cap hit is $2.2 million. There are teams out there that could use Rozsival for one season - Detroit, Florida, Calgary. If we weren't in a cap crunch I wouldn't be too worried about unloading Rozsival.

There is no LTIR for old: you actually have to have an injury - and I would guess the league at least requires a doctor's report.

The nice thing about someone who is trying to get to the cap floor or just has a lot of cap space is that while Rosival carries a 2.2M cap hit, his actual salary is just 1.75M

The cap floor is $51 million and every team is above it. But a low end team could be willing to pay $1.75 million for a veteran defenseman to help mentor their young talent.

That's rough, but it's not like we haven't seen Toews laying there like that. Except Toews gets up on his own.

Keith has that for the most part in Seabrook who takes the Keith grenade passes and converts those to zone exits.
