Versteeg has a retained salary on the Hawks of about 2.2....if you subtract Teuvo, he, Versteeg, has a similar cap savings of Rozsival. |

Pick up Leino and dump Bickell?
That leaves the Hawks without a big body up front. - EKolb13
Yeah,....not a fan of THAT at all.
Hawks need some size. God willing Bickell has a complete year . |

Sometimes I think this is the board where "Make a trade" seems to predominate discussion, opinion or even common sense.
Not trying to knock anyone, but think about this - each move that we have seen made in the last years was never the player we thought or in many cases a guy who we never considered, or saw value in.
It may be just me but in my humble opinion, the game has again changed in many respects but the biggest is teams are finding undrafted and later drafted forwards who excel in the shorter shift. They weren't players whose junior careers were ones were they had the strong body, or had put the all the skills together or where even big-time snipers, but since that time in their lives, they has can play at the NHL level and jump out there and make things happen and do things at the qiuck pace because the read the situations well and have great reactiions and reflexes.
When I watch games they are the guys that surprise you, and you think wow...he is getting there...
There are teams that have better at finding these guys and working them into lineup spots where the bring the etam success.
I could start naming guys on teams that I feel fit the category, but as soon as I do point their needle up, they may have already reached a shelf life or are stagnant and can't get better or their needle can point down as quickly.
I even think there are teams that are better at finding them.
So instead of me pining on a specific non-hawk in a time where Cap is getting more
dear, I am perfectly willing to wait and see what the time from March 15th to Oct. 15th what surprises in personal are brought.
If you are thinking that any new candidates are going to be added from outside, I think you will be unhappy.
The MOVE they make is a subtraction. - wiz1901
agreed. good post.

Seabrook is one of the beat passing dmen in the league and anyone laughing at that isn't watching the same game as me. - Al
Agreed. I sit there for a lot of home games and watch these bad, grenade type passes Keith throws Seabrook with a forecheck bearing in on him, and Seabrook not only converts a CRAP pass, but makes the right pass quickly 99.9% of the time.
Again....Seabrook is VASTLY underrated in my book by the national media. Everyone can sit there and light Candles at the Keith statue, but without Seabrook I don't think Keith sniffs a Norris.
Seabrook is THE only physical threat the Hawks have on the back end. Hammer picks his spots, but has relinquished quite a bit since he got dinged in Buffalo a few years back. |

Well, most sane human beings don't wish head injuries on others, even if they play for a team you don't like.
Honestly, I don't and wouldn't be happy about anybody getting hit like that. You could name the most hated players of all time.
For some reason a lot of people think it is ok......and probably why it is such a problem in the NHL. A lot of players feel the same way.

I won't argue with this.
But read what you wrote: all about the warts of the other two, not about Crawford's.
My point is, all three are somewhat interchangeable, and all three will perform about the same over time with the same caliber of defenses in front of them.
If I have to win one game, I play Anderson. Honestly. Further, i recall Halak was AWESOME for Slovakia in the Olympics in 2010 and equally for Montreal up to (and through) the Conference Finals that year.
Both guys have stolen many games. Crawford? Meh, not as much. - John Jaeckel
I respect your opinion JJ but that was four years ago. |

Maybe if Backes wasnt a complete d-bag people wouldnt say this. What does Backes contribute to the NHL as a player? Nothing, his skill set is not special and he is a joke of a captain. There is no reason with the talent the Blues have that they should have been this big a bust. Look no further than leadership. Backes and Jackman play dumb and therefor your team is never more than a good regular season team. |

Good choice. Assuming the other boards have similar issues. NHL on XM is painful these days as well. Training camp is coming so there it is a light at the end of the tunnel. C'mon Notre Dame coverage! |

August is my least favourite month. Any month where the highlight is Devon Setoguchi signing for $750,000 sucks. |

Yep, I decided to make Labor Day a 5 day weekend. Hooking up the camper and heading out for some camping at Turkey Run state Park. Not a bad trip only 3 hours from downtown and pretty good for hiking/canoeing/fishing or just going down the river on a tube with a cold one. See you guys on Sept 2nd, things should start to warm up by then.

That's the crap we cling to in August. I even look out for the hockey pool magazines that come out in late-August. Anything to get a little hockey fix.
I don't follow any other sports so I have no other distractions. I'm forced to talk with the wife and I don't think she likes that. |

Obviously Versteeg is moved for a pick. Whatever you can get. Insert ELC player in his place. Should be between 8-900K.Subtract ELC from Versteeg's cap hit leaves the Hawks with a savings of 1.3-1.4M.
Who would want him? That is a whole nutter matter.

Which brings to mind the whole trading Seabrook trade scenarios we have seen posted. If Seabrook was on the market, every and I mean every team in the league would be on the phone to Bowman asking what the price is?
And that doesn't even take into account his value inside the room. He is the classic example of a player not needing a letter on his jersey to be a leader. |

I remember when all these TT warnings were being heaped on Saad, now he's part of "possibly the Hawks best top six ever!" My how the winds blow fiercely to and fro on this site. |
