I don't even care at this point. Camp invite is fine. No expectations about it. I was against it before bit if it does him a favor or even puts more competition in camp then it's worth a look, even though he likely wouldn't make the cut.

Malone used to play well with Geno. He's a kind of player we don't really have on our roster. I'm only afraid he might have become another Taylor Pyatt
- Barnaby36

He last played with Geno and Sykora here, but that was way back in '08. And no, he won't be 'another Taylor Pyatt.' Pyatt was a player who shied away from physical play and going to the tough areas.

I would only give him a tryout. I wouldn't just sign him right away. He has had a brutal last few seasons ... lots of injuries. You don't lose anything signing him to a tryout. A healthy Malone, one with his head on straight, is something the Pens have lacked for years.

May be a dumb question, but ff he's demoted to the AHL, does his cap hit still stay on the books? Or would it turn into like 70k ?

I'm not sure if he could play top 6 anymore, even with Geno, but if we give him a camp tryout and he looks ok, we at least have some insurance in case Hornqvist or Kunitz or even Bennett get hurt. We have pretty much 0 top 6 depth in the farm system...unless we were rushing Kapanen, I think he's a decent depth option as long as he can be buried in the minors if needed.

We got burnt by Kobasew's 'tryout' last year so maybe we don't invite Malone ?

Is Giroux being paid in naked men? If so...then yes...yes he can be.

Grow up idiot.

Grow up? Dude it was a joke, pull the stick out from your rear end... Jeez. Also there is nothing childish about a coke Joke, a gay joke however is something you'd hear from a grade schooler.

I think the Malone ship has sailed. I'd rather the team give a guy who can skate a tryout.

Ryan Jones
Colin Fraser
Ryan Carter

They might not be the sexy names but they will work harder and can move faster then Malone and seeing how it seems that people are trying to shoe horn Malone into the 3rd or 4th line they would be more accustomed to that role.

I see. My viewpoint is more or less we need someone as insurance/depth options that can compliment decently well in the top 6. Those guys you named, imo, aren't any better than what we have in the AHL for the bottom 6. And it definitely matters whether Adams is on the bench or on the roster.

I don't think Malone can slide into the top 6 anymore.

Well... the question is just letting try out. While I don't think we have any space for another player.. I don't see an issue with letting him try out. In fact, if he would want to try out here over anywhere else, It'd be rude to not let him. He should be aware of the situation we are in cap and roster wise already.

Watching Mario's 500th goal game on NHL network. What a great pass by Naslund for Mario's 499th! What could have been...

Random trade foolishness because Im bored.
In light of the stupidity going with San Jose stripping Thornton of the C.

To San Jose:
Sutter + Scuderi + 1st
To Pittsburgh:
Thornton

Yes or No? And yes YouMeAndDupuis9 I know you'd rather have Marleau.

I dont really care what he does off the ice, but he really isnt of any use to us anymore. He isnt fast enough to play with Sid and his net front presence isnt needed with Hornqvist on Malkins line.
His net front presence isnt needed on the 3rd line either due to Spaling.
I'd take Adams over Malone on the 4th.

People have mentioned him for call up duty, but where? We have enough younger talent that can take over in the bottom six and we could always move Sutter, Spaling or Downie into the top six to cover injuries.

Malone isnt really the roll model type to be teaching the kids the ropes in the AHL either.

Well guilty as charged about Marleau...haha.

No idea what the overall value of this trade is but I don't think I would do it. That 1st is so valuable in next years draft. And 3 more years at $6.75M is a little scary given Thorton's age. I'm just over good young assets being flipped for old guys. Brendan Morrow sounded awesome when we traded for him, ya know? I would trade that package you proposed maybe for someone in the age range more like Yakupov, Perron, Nyquist, etc.

The big appeal with Marleau/Martin swap is that it addresses areas of need and both guys are about the same age.

What would you give up for Bobby Ryan given that he may or may not re-sign if we traded for him?

I doubt that Bobby Ryan resigns with Ottawa, their owner self imposed salary cap really doesnt sound like Ottawa is interested in winning, and Ryan can get his money elsewhere.

Ryan, personally I dont like him as a player, I cant put my finger on it. He reminds me alot of Spezza, great talent but just missing something....

I'd pass.

Why would it be rude to not let him try out? The Penguins don't owe Malone anything. I don't care if he says he wants to. He had his chance to stay in Pittsburgh and opted out. It didn't work out for him and both the Penguins and Lightning have moved forward.

That has nothing to do with my opinion on him. We'd have to kidding ourselves if we thought that NHL players didn't drink and use blow. I just don't think he is very good at hockey anymore.

I'm pretty sure if James Neal could skate well enough to play with Malkin Malone's skating wouldn't be a problem on that line. Bennett and his limp wrist will be hurt before too long and Malone is better at hockey than prob all our AHL forwards. You just let the young kids play when your team is doing a rebuild, we still have a cup or two to win.
