No. By no measure, conference, anything, is he a “very good” starting goalie. He’s average. As another poster has said, if anything, he’s ideal for a backup. Some of the best goalies in the league are in the East.

His career sv% ranks him 12th of 16 starting goalies in the East. There’s another stat to go along with the “never playing a full season with a sv% better than .917” stat.

By no measure is he a top goalie. He’s just average. You honestly can’t come up with one credible, meaningful stat that says he’s one of the best in the East.

Well, he's been great during playoffs, which is where it counts!

Last 3 playoffs (save the demolition by the Pens) he had a .933, .933 & .950 PCT!!
along with 2.62, 2.00 & 1.80 GAA!!

You're ignorant.

We are American. We all are. We live in a bubble and have no idea what's going on in the outside world. Figured I'd beat someone to it.

silly scenario

he's a good goalie on a mediocre team

check out Quick/Crawford I'm pretty sure their save pct hasn't been over .917 very often in full years

- Garnie

Quick has TWO full seasons over that and is 5 years younger. Not to mention, despite seeing much better results in full seasons, he's still not known for his regular season successes, and many wouldn't consider him a TOP goalie.

Crawford is four years younger, hasn’t pulled it off. But how many people would describe him as a VERY good goaltender? I’d personally say he is pretty average too. Also more known for his post-season successes.

It doesn't make sense to me. Lehner probably only signed his deal thinking he was going to be the starter ASAP now 3 more year of back-up duties.

He has a 920 average in ottawa ,926 in the playoffs .Is he a 75 game workhorse ..no .But how many actual goaltenders do that?? ,you need two goalies to compete .We have a great young one in Lehner and a very good 55 to 60 game starter in Anderson.

- top shelf 15

Apparently he isn't a 32 game workhorse.

If you can't play more than 31 games and post a decent sv%, you most certainly are not a very good 55 to 60 game starter.
