It's a good thing SpoiledbyOil will show us all the way. I can wait to learn the treasure trove of knowledge that can only be gained from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. |

He played 53 games last year and 63 games 2 years ago and 71 the year previous. - Garnie
that wasn't an either or scenario.
He’s never played more than 31 games and posted a sv% better than .917 in the same season.
I thought that would be pretty clear, especially when you read the rest of the post.

Lehner has 61 nhl games under his belt ,he needs to learn some more .Andy is a pretty good goaltender ,and the team already knows him .So why try and find a replacement, the 3 year extension ends just as Lehner is up for his contract(RFA).So it works

I never said it didn’t work for you. It’s not like you need a big time goaltender right now. It’s hardly the piece that’s going to snag you a cup right now. I just wouldn’t agree with calling him a VERY good goaltender. He hasn’t really proven he is. |

He's like a perfect backup goaltender. Amazing numbers when he plays under 30 games a season and not bad in long stretches when your starter is down. Would love to have Anderson instead of Gustavsson |

No. By no measure, conference, anything, is he a “very good” starting goalie. He’s average. As another poster has said, if anything, he’s ideal for a backup. Some of the best goalies in the league are in the East.
His career sv% ranks him 12th of 16 starting goalies in the East. There’s another stat to go along with the “never playing a full season with a sv% better than .917” stat.
By no measure is he a top goalie. He’s just average. You honestly can’t come up with one credible, meaningful stat that says he’s one of the best in the East.

silly scenario
he's a good goalie on a mediocre team
check out Quick/Crawford I'm pretty sure their save pct hasn't been over .917 very often in full years
