Buzz: The Rangers have spoken with Ryan Malone
August 25th, 2014 4:05 pm
UFA Ryan Malone has reportedly spoken with the Rangers. (Star Tribune, via Jefferson and Michael)
Malone “looked good” while skating in Minnesota at the Octagon Hockey Camp and could get a training camp tryout. (Star Tribune, via Jefferson and Michael)
The Ranges have reportedly done “extensive homework” on Malone and have spoken with him about a potential training camp tryout or two-way deal. It isn’t known if the Rangers talks with Malone occurred before the team signed Kevin Hayes. (Inside Pittsburgh Sports, via Jefferson)
Malone was arrested in April for a DUI and possession of cocaine. (PHT)
The situation was reportedly a “wake up call” for Malone and he is “said to be in excellent shape” while training for the season. (Inside Pittsburgh Sports, via Jefferson)
Malone had the final year of his contract bought out by Tampa Bay using a compliance buyout. (Cap Geek)
Malone, 34, has 23 points in 81 games over the last two years. In the previous five seasons he had between 38 and 51 points.
He has previously played with Dominic Moore (Pitt and TB), Marty St. Louis and Michael Kostka.
In 2000, Glen Sather said “as a general philosophy I believe people deserve a second chance.” (NY Post) - jimbro83

Definitely think this would be a before Hayes thing. Don't see how we have room for him. If it was on a try-out and he can beat out someone like Stepniak or Lombardi let him play. Definitely don't want him taking up a kids spot. |

We don't even have enough room for his contract right?
Graves' contract slides if he gets sent down to Juniors which opens up 1 spot for Moore. I don't think Duclair's contract can slide this year. |

It can't, because they signed him 6 days to late. |

Sorry to say I stopped reading when
The idea of b Boyle on the PP was floated.
Might as well get Torts back here too.
The guy was a good 4th liner but there's
A certain logic behind the numbering of the
Lines...d moore is equally effective. |

No traffic in front of the net helped contribute to poor PP. Boyle's name was mentioned during the year because he is a big body and could have screened the goalie. While D Moore is effective, adage of you can't teach height applies here. |

the biggest problem on the powerplay has been the lack of a right handed point man who can quarterback it. Girardi had to take on that role a lot during the season and in the playoffs and I think it contributed to him being worn down by the finals, he just was forced to do too much.
Now that we have Dan Boyle for the powerplay, Dan Girardi's overall game is going to be more effective. |

It's no secret that as soon as they stopped moving and AV din't change the units that the PP went south, they also tend to telegraph passes and pass up too many shots |

they pass up shots as no one on the damn team has a slapshot! I'm hoping Boyle will help with that but I remember him being more of a QB than a shooter |

Or a (frank)ing one timer(except MSL)! Forget the people who say Stepan should work on his foot speed. He should be working on his one timers. How many times did he get the puck sitting down low and by the time he accepted the pass and teed it up, the goalie was already there. Probably could have had another 5-10 goals. |

Torts tried b Boyle on the PP -the guy just has zero hands And
and no nose for the net.
He also doesn't possess that Holmstromesque desire to get pummeled
That made him so useful.
I was saying d moore is a perfectly adequate replacement for
Boyle in other regards. |

I re-activated our fantasy hockey league, people from last year should have invites.
Anybody else wants in just let me know.
We are going back to the head-to-head format instead of points, I thoughts points sucked and was boring.

Points sucked cuz you made faceoff wins count as a point I think. All of a sudden crappy 4th line centers were getting more points than a winger like hossa cuz they won a few faceoffs
I will win this game years league though regardless if its point or h2h |
