Guys, he's gonna sign in Ottawa. This whole Ryan-to-anywhere theory is ridiculous. The negotiation period for Bobby Ryan began on July 1st. Bobby Ryan appears to be, on the surface at least, a straight shooter. If he was going to test free agency, then Ottawa would obviously be trying to move him, and they would have been doing so for the past two months. They gave up three pretty good pieces to get him, and they won't let him walk for nothing. People can say what they want about Melnyk's financial situation, but the man actually still has money. Ottawa also has the cap space necessary to bear a huge contract. The cap continues to go up, the money has to be spent somewhere just to reach the floor. Ottawa will find a way to sign him to an extension. So enough already with the talk about him going elsewhere. If Ryan does eventually indicate that he's going to go to free agency, then obviously the Senators will do what they can to move him along. That hasn't happened, and anyone saying that he won't re-sign in Ottawa is speculating. Not surprising at all that 99% of those rumours are coming out of Pennsylvania. Just let it go.

As for Michalek, if he hits 20 goals this year, then Ottawa should be thrilled. 15-20 should be the range anyways, but he won't log 1st line minutes.

They would take that trade if Ryan refused to re-sign, but that's not enough to make them think twice about re-signing him.

As for Michalek, it's starting to sound like we're right back to wild speculation on how good various young wingers might or might not be, and some people assuming they've somehow earned prime roster spots ahead of players with one-way contracts and years more experience. I'm pretty sure they're not paying Michalek $4M/yr to play on the 3rd line, which means he'll almost certainly be playing with whichever of Legwand or Zibanejad is playing 2nd line minutes.

I really hope Michalek can find his game again and he doesn't become a roster plug. Tired of Greening, Phillips, and Neil taking up roster spots, would suck to see Michalek become one as well.

It would be nice, just one more guy to add to the list of question marks this season.

Good news is if a majority of Cowen, Lehner, Stone, Zibby, Hoffman, Weircioch, Ceci, Chiasson, Michalek can meet or exceed expectations, we could be an excellent team....

But that's a lot of "ifs"

I expect a return to form for Milan. I see him playing with zibanejad and Chiasson. Regardless I see a 25/30/55 year for Milan.

Michalek still has great hands and a great finish. An accurate shot and, if healthy, can be a very effective two way player. Playing 2nd line LW with fast players will be a great thing for him. I think playing Lazar this year with all the young guys they have is a great idea. I'd make a trade early in the season because of the log jam of guys up front. The guys that will be battling for spots are: Chiasson, Stone, Hoffman, Condra (UFA coming), Greening, Lazar

I've still undecided on the captaincy. I don't think it belongs to anyone but Karlsson. He's the MVP in the organization; he lived with the former captain and followed him in a lot of ways; the former captain called his name when he was drafted; he's sweedish (personal favorite); he's a leader; he's everything you want in a captain. The only question is whether it's the right time. Maybe putting the spotlight on him more isn't a good idea; especially given the way he plays. Maybe wait till next year

Send fans continually ask the question "why wouldn't they sign bobby Ryan?" And talk of why melnyk would be crazy not to pony up. They never seen to ask the more important question. "Why on earth would bobby Ryan sign with the sens?"

Why did Kessle sign with the Leafs? Their success in the last 10 years?

Well, they were coming off a season making the playoffs. Showing improvement. They have a budget to pay him and retain other players. Toronto is a world class cosmopolitan city. A strong franchise with a fan base that you can guarantee will fill the arena every night. You'd have to ask him.
Sort of irrelevant though.

I can give you 64 million reasons why he signed. I think Kessel will turn out to be a very good long term signing. He is an outstanding skater and will maintain his speed and high level game well into the end of his contract.

I am not nearly as certain that Ryan is as nearly attractive on a long term deal. He is not a great technical skater and his game will fall off rapidly when he begins to lose a step from his speed.

I would not be disappointed if they moved him rather than sign him to an excessive deal.

I think that fact that Kessel isn't aggressive in corners and doesn't hit will help him in the long run in regards to not regressing drastically. But we'll see

yes Toronto sells more tickets but trust me when i say this, it's been fun/exciting being a Sens fan the last ten years. Not sure a leafs fan can truely make that same claim.
