I like that as a fall back but I hope they start pre-season like this...

Schenn-G-Jake
Akeson-VL-Simmer
Read-Couts-Hamburgler
Raffl-Laughts-Bellemare/Rinaldo

- juiced

Akeson is one dimensional he isn't getting 2nd line minutes and Laughton wont make the team

I have to agree with Homer. It is easy for a C to play Wing. I do it. I usually take center because as bad as I am at faceoffs I am one of the better ones. Occasionally I'll be placed on the wing and aside from staying near the boards, you do a lot less then a center. A center has to backcheck and defend against the opposing Center which is tiring as unlike Dmen that Center is always moving always trying to lose you. Wingers are covering the Dmen who aren't very mobile unless there is a chance to pinch but at that point you are switching coverage to avoid crossing. Other than the fact you have to be in a different place on the ice I don't feel Wing is anywhere as close to center and that if you can play center you can play wing

It's going to be awfully difficult to both develop B Schenn and Couturier offensively, and appease Lecavalier, imo.

Who would you pick to be on your team:

Player A: 29yrs old and pretty much leveled off with no upside, Was fourth on his team in points with 41 (11goals), +/- -6 on a very good team, with 16:58 ATOI. And, 73 hits Cap hit: $5.75

Player B: 23yrs old and has good potential for offensive upside, Was Sixth on his team in points with 41 (20 goals), +/- 0 on a good team, with 15:44 ATOI. And, 200 hits. Cap hit: $2.5M

I think we need to ease up on the expectations for B.Schenn. If he leveled off at his current rate, I'd be happy. (Just as long as his future cap number doesn't increase with expectations and not reality). Consistency will come with age.

He was solid defensively against the Rangers. And Laughton is going to make the team.

In my view, move Schenn to wing and leave him there. That's where he belongs in my opinion.

Right or wrong, there are high expectations for Brayden Schenn.

He was drafted 5th in his draft year and was traded for a popular, heart and soul player. He comes with a good junior hockey pedigree. Fans have every reason to have high expectations.

What we might need is patience.

At this juncture of his career, with what he's shown, I don't disagree. It really just depends on how the Flyers project him and how Schenn sees himself.

I think Schenn gelling with Giroux on the top line would fix a lot of our position problems. Vinnie centering the 2nd line with Simmonds and an actual playmaker like Read could go a long way to restablishing Lecavilier's reputation. I think if we are going to move him, we are going to have to increase his value, which means giving him a playmaker, rather than Schenn & Simmonds who are bangers and scorers.

My point is that expectations are relative. A 41pts/20goal scorer in the NHL, ain't bad. To make expectations, as the only valid point to make a trade is dumb. Not saying their are... But, B.Schenn name gets brought up a lot in trade rumors. Mainly for his expectations.

I have issue with inconsistency complaints. His inconsistency is natural at his age. Would you rather have a inconsistent 20goal scorer or a consistent 5goal scorer.

best chance of that happening is if he plays with G and Jake on line one, or if he stays at C then Berube breaks up G and Jake and B Schenn gets Jake as his winger.
- Marc D

I kind of think that line is gonna happen. That's part of the reason I predicted his boost.

If he is on that line, I don't think 52 points is a huge, huge reach for him at this age. It is hopeful, but I don't believe it is beyond his capabilities. Especially not if he is with G and Jake

I don't know about breaking up Coots and Read... And, I'd keep Giroux and Voracek together as well. And let Schenn and Simmonds battle it out for the other pairings. I agree with VL with playmakers, Umberger and Raffl? Unless Bellemare, Akeson, or Laughton make the team and sneek into the top 9.

If the one dimension is goal scoring, that's exactly where he belongs. You can't play him on a checking role on "energy" role. If his only talent is point production, he damn well better be in your top-6.

Which would be fine if he had a full season under his belt but you are taking a guy straight from AHL and playing him top 6 minutes for an 82 game season. unless the kid is a superstar he isn't going to well. He has to adjust.

best case scenario, he plays with Giroux and Jake and has a 30 goal season on the wing.

also could see him slotting in the high slot/low slot #1 PP, where Hartnell was,
and excelling there

Couts becomes the #2 C behind G for the future

VL has a solid year staying at C with some defensively responsible wingers (Umby, Raffl, Read...mix and match as best fits)

So the options are either keep him in the AHL or stick him in a role where he's not well suited and his weaknesses will outweigh his strengths? If you don't put him in a scoring role, he won't score, and since that's his primary role, he needs to be on a scoring line. And he has all of training camp to show he belongs there.
