and Jansen was never the same after belak opened up a can of spinnach

I frankin' hate the NHL sometimes.

Janssen kills Kaberle - kills the Leafs' playoff hopes in the process.

NHL suspends Janssen for what - 10 games? Which at 4 minutes of ice time per game he was averaging, works out to two periods.

And then Belak punches him in the face a few times, and apparently everything is squared away.

I love Marty Brodeur, but if I was the Leafs' coach, I would have called up a goon from the ECHL to break Brodeur's hip.

No, I'm not kidding.

But then you get a Bertuzzi/Moore situation.

thinking about it... how (frank)ing stupid was Crawford to get one of his top players to pull that poop?

no offense.. but everyone sucked

kaberle is NOT an anchor.. he's a complimentary d-man.. relying on him too much is the coach's fault, not the players

- Dozzer

This first part is incorrect. Several players had career years. (Or were at least above their average.)

No, Kaberle wasn't an anchor, which was painfully learned. He's a guy who tried to defend against the pass when the Canes had an empty net.

Move Franson for anything, bring up Granberg. Save us some money and see where we are come trade deadline time. My assumption is no where close that merits a big trade but if somehow it does happen then we have some cap space. If not, start working on Kadri/Bernier extensions.

San Jose's asking price for Thornton, as has been stated on here before, is Nylander, Kadri, Reilly, Gardiner and Toronto's 2015 and 2016 first round picks. The Leafs may have to add another piece to make this work!!! A fair price as far as the Sharks are concerened. Dave Nonis is channelling the ghost of Gerry McNamara for guidance. Cliff Fletcher is happy to wait and sign Steve Staios to a 10 year, 100 million dollar contract confusing him with Steven Stamkos.

There must be an unwritten rule the Toronto Maple Leafs must pay 10 times what other teams do in trades.

And with Rielly+ Gardiner, why the hell would we even consider Kaberle?

Yeah I really like the moves that Nonis has made this summer...Not a huge splash but additions to upgrade the depth at forward and the addition of some mid to bottom pairing defensemen.

The one thing I really want to see the Leafs get soon is a #1 center. Bozak is just awful IMO (for a #1 center) and I'm still not sold on Kadri...hopefully Nylander can eventually fill that role.

- RickJames77

Kadri and Bozak are both being very underrated by you. Bozak played at a 69 point pace last year. Awful? Hardly.

I agree about the depth. Nice moves and good cap management.

Kadri has put up very promising stats the last two years. But all he does is get crapped on. Meanehile we have to hear Sens fans call the inferior Turris "Elite".

Hey, it's my opinion...every one has their evaluations. I don't think Kadri has the 2way game or the ability to be a #1 center. I think he could be a very good #2 center.

Also if you look at Bozak's play without Kessel, it is horrendous. I like the Leafs, so I just want to clarify I'm not a troll trying to ruffle your feathers, it's just my opinion.

That's ok. My opinion is that defensive play has become far too overvalued. The guy is 23 and has put up 44 points in 48 games, and 50 points in a full season in a "Bad" year.

Defensive play can be taught. Offensive talent cannot. Kadri has the talent.

I agree with you on Bozak front. Kadri is still young, hope to see him on line 1 a little bit this year. My friend offered up some crazy line combos the other day.

Lupul-Kadri-Kessel
JVR-Bozak-Holland
Booth-Winnik-Clarkson
Santorelli-Kontiola-Komarov
Frattin

Pretty interesting the say the least.

Thornton would be pretty good with Kessel, but I'm not sure losing the assets to get him would be worth it for Toronto right now. The Leafs do have the second best chance of a Canadian team making the playoffs.

I think defensive play is just so hard to gauge.... Look at bozak and kadri. Both play on the same team. Lots of people see to think bozak is good defensively and that kadri is horrendous defensively. I wouldn't say bozak is any better (if at all) defensively than kadri.

Guys... I have been doing some thinking and finally came up with realistic trade proposal for once to acquire big Joe.

How about we send them Brad Stuart, Wayne Primeau, & Marco Sturm?

Fair?

I freakin' love Thornton. I've wanted him on the Leafs for a long, long time. He would be great with Kessel.

I wouldn't give up more than Bozak, Franson and a 3rd rounder for him.

It just doesn't make sense.

Pity.
