The Sabres aren't tanking, they're rebuilding. Every move Tim Murray has made indicates he is building toward a Team that can compete for the Cup.

Sure, we could have Pegula shell out the cash for overpaid UFA's and spend all the way to the Salary Max. Then no one would accuse us of tanking. However, at best we would be a borderline 8-10 team in the east and saddled with bad contracts where we wouldn't be able to sign the young players we have.

We tanked abysmally last year and didn't get the 1st pick. Someone on here said we would likely finish in the bottom 7, and I think that's about right. I would bet we get around the 4th overall pick next year...that's about a 10% chance of getting McDavid.

I think the Islanders have a better chance of imploding next year given their history, their GM and their Defense.

If you have a 25% chance of winning, and that chance is decreased to 20% then you just lost 20% (not 5%) because there are five fives in 25 and 1 in 5 is 20%.

Did he say nobody tanked recently? Oilers tanked the year they brought Hall, eberle and paajarvi up in the same year and didn't even bother to sign some readily available depth d, forwards or a goalie of any kind.

This was like 3-4 years ago and paajarvi still isn't a quality nhl er, but was good enough as a 19 year old for the oilers?

Finally a good sabers fan. All I hear isn Sabres fans rooting to lose. It's possible that teams preform better than they actually are. Root for them to win, hope for playoffs and if they are bad then hey you get a good prospect. Might as well get some entertainment out of the season.

None of us actually cheer when the other team scores
But we also realize that the best way to compete for a Cup, is to draft near the top for McDavid or Eichel

For a city that's NEVER won a championship...
Do u really blame us for wanting the best chance to FINALLY win the Cup?!

oilers are another joke franchise like the coyotes, panthers, and sabres

oilers ruin so many kids with amazing talent and end up just sucking year after year

we were the worst one year and lost patrick kane but no worries no need to cry like buffalo
- 2Real

Youve been the worst more than just that year and youve been a bottom 10 team more than a handful of times. But i wouldnt expect you to know that.

What about the Islanders? They have had a prolonged rebuild because they are better than the worst teams every year. Except when they got Johnny T they finish around 4th-7th most years. It shouldn't be the worst team every year getting the best player it's an easy way out to tank and get last place.
- JVR_42_PK81

Still even drafting low is no guarantee youll hit. You start taking away some of those high end picks from those bad teams you might as well start folding teams. You need these high picks in order to get out of the basement. Teams are gonna rebuild its the nature of game. Its gotta be done.
