I know jarmo said he'd match any offer sheet for Johansen but what if a team did an OS like:
5M for year 1
8.25 for year 2
Cap hit is 6.625 and only give up a 1st 2nd and 3rd
Cbj likely doesn't worry as it's short term and only a bit high on cap hit, plus the compensation is below what they'd want. I wonder if the 8.25 figure worries him and creeps some doubt in his mind. Doesn't the next offer have to then be 8.25 for Johansen if they match? Isn't like cgy and ROR?
Not sure I understand the qualifying offers fully |

Are you Jay Feaster???
RJ should be signing a bridge. And yes if you give him 8.25 then his qualifying offer has to be at least that. BJ's would then likely do the same as Colorado did with ROR and take him to team elected Arbitration.
RJ should just shut up and sign a 2 yr 9 mill deal and earn his next contract.

They've said they are willing to let this go into training camp too and he's willing to miss it.
I think 2 year 10 or 11 mill is fair. |

ROR signed an offer sheet that was
3.5M for year 1
6.5M for year 2
So the QO had to be 6.5M or higher, but in arbitration I think it can go as low as like 85% or something of the QO, which in ROR's case was like 5.5 but they settled at 6. I think if you signed RJ to that deal, the best you'd get out of arbitration would be about 7M and who knows how high the cap/arbitration settlements'll be 3 years from now. Sub just got 9M |

You would be doing the Jackets a favour since it is reported he was poking bw 6-7m. Cant see him signing an offer sheet that low at 5m.
Your best option is to trade for him and sign him if you really want to add him to the Oilers. |

RJ had one good year. He needs to take a bridge deal. Subban did and it paid off. I dont think he is quite worth the risk of a long term deal yet. If it was in the same range as Hall, Duchene, Nuge etc then just send sign him to 8 years 50 mill.
Otherwise prove yourself. |

Tough call.
Cbj signs him to that deal now, they save cap long term but they canto guarantee he's worth it. I think he is. Playing it safe now with the bridge is going to cost them later especially if the cap goes up.
For instance, halls deal at the time was a bit high to some but is now a bargain deal. |

If the team told him to really focus on gaining weight all summer I doubt he'd have only gained 5lbs. You can gain that in 20 hours on the Byfuglien diet |
