So I suppose I should chime in about Joe Thornton.

Personally, if Joe was willing to waive to be an Oiler, I would do it for sure. It wouldn't be cheap but I would be willing to offer:

David Perron
Jeff Petry
Conditional 2015 or 2016 1st
Conditional 2015 or 2016 2nd.

The conditional 1st would depend on whether we made the playoff's or not. If we made the playoff's we would give up the pick in 2015, otherwise in 2016.
If the Sharks were unhappy with Petry, or unable to extend him we would have to give up a 2nd rounder in 2016.

I think, when and if the Oilers were competing in the playoff's, the team would be driven by Taylor Hall, not Joe Thornton. As odd as it sounds, Thornton will have to be a bit of a secondary player, probably playing on a massive line with Draisaitl on the LW (learning from a master) and Purcell on the right, until the time comes when both Yak and Draisaitl can be trusted to be on a line together.

This whole Thornton not being able to compete in the playoff's is Malarkey.

It blows my mind.
