If we were to land Big Joe I would definitely want Draisaitl on the team too so he could learn how to be an elite big centerman from one of the best. |

Yah cause getting to the Conference Finals is not "WINNING" in the playoffs and worthless...
The guy gets dumped on for no reason. He should still be the C there and it's ridonculous that they took it away. Now they're saying he's gotta "make the team"?? He's the best player on the Sharks by a mile and everyone's production will drop off if he leaves. I'd love to see Couture actually face #1 matchups and see how he does. This is the biggest mis-management of a player I've seen in awhile. If you can't tell, Joe is one of my favorite players.
That being said, I wouldn't trade a ton for him. He's only got another 3 years in him at his current production until he starts to slow down which would scare me off if I'm the Oil. He needs to go to a "win now" team to grab that Cup he deserves. - NugentHallberle
apparently it only takes 1 guy to win a cup |

Big Joe and his contract are both good enough to after with a solid package but I can't help but feel the 1st overall this year and Perron is too much.
That is mainly because the Oiler most likely :-( will be in a position to potentially get one of McDavid or Eichel. Hopefully an extremely small chance but I think every Oiler fan on the planet would freak out if we traded that pick to SJ, missed the playoffs, and then SJ won the lottery to take the next big superstar. |

Exactly like them. Except that Jeff Carter has a Stanley-Cup winning goal on his resume. |

Four teams make it to the Conference Finals every year. I can tell you the last 40+ Stanley Cup Champions. Could you name all 160 teams that made the Conference Finals over that span? No, because no one remembers you just for making the Conference Finals because it doesn't matter.
So, okay, he's good enough to win some playoff games, but not enough. All better? |

Yeah you're right. The Blackhawks should blow up their team since they only made it to the WCF this year... I'm surprised the Pens stuck with Crosby and Malkin after 2008 since they didn't win the Cup. I guess it was just dumb luck that they didn't trade those guys like everyone else would've and won the Cup the next year.

Great blog Matt.
Nice to see you come back with a gooder after those last couple....
Joe Thornton is still an Elite Center. This team would be many times better with him and the Sharks would regret letting him go. The whole thing with him failing in the playoffs is way over done. The Kings were damn lucky to take the Sharks out last year. And no one else on the team besides Joe stepped up when he was being shadowed. All his fault....
He is still a master with the puck.
I dont like giving up our 1st this year. Maybe Perron, Petry and a 2nd or something.

Didn't Ryan Garner always complain about Little Joe when he was SJS' blogger? How great would that be for JT to come to EDM and then tank in the playoffs and see Garner go off all over again!
Heck go ahead and get Marleau as well |
