Ryan, kudos! That was the best I've seen for explaining that particular MVP result.

hahaha

Is this whole board gonna be on suicide watch if/when the Flyers win a Stanley Cup? I never got the undying hatred for all things Philadelphia-related that seems to be shared by everyone from Pittsburgh. I can guarantee you it doesn't go both ways (we hate New York and Boston much more).

It will be a sad dark day. The nice thing is that it wont last long because the jaws of hell will swallow us all if the Flyers in the cup. It would ring in the end of days.

No, it would just be the day that Satan has to turn on the heat.

Reminds me of the joke about the Leaf fan.

One day, Satan was out for a walk through Hell, making sure things were running smoothly. When he got to the Lake of Fire, he saw a man sitting by the lake, relaxing in a lawn chair, and not sweating or looking uncomfortable at all. Perplexed, Satan approached the man and asked:

"Young man, are you not hot or bothered by this heat?" The man replied, "Oh no, not at all. I lived in downtown Toronto and this weather is just like a typical July day in the city."

Satan thought that this was not a good sign, so he rushed back to his office and turned up the heat in Hell another 100 degrees. Satisfied with himself, he again returned to the Lake of Fire to check on the young man.

When he got there, the man was showing a few beads of sweat, but that was all. Again Satan asked the Toronto native, "Are you hot and uncomfortable yet?"

The young man looked up and said, "No, the temperature is just like a hot August day in Toronto. I'm coping it just fine."

Satan decided that he had to do something drastic to make this man's stay in Hell unpleasant. He went back to his office, turned the heat all the way down, and then turned up the air conditioning. The temperature in Hell quickly dropped well below zero. As he approached the Lake of Fire, he noticed that it was now frozen over. He also saw the young man jumping up and down wildly, waving his arms and yelling into the air.

"This looks promising!" thought Satan. Coming closer, he finally made out what the man was shouting:
"The Leafs have won the Stanley Cup! The Leafs have won the Stanley Cup!"

Yes. That Ovechkin win was such a joke.

I never understood the "Crosby Didn't Play Enough". They turned around and gave it to a guy who only showed up for half of a half season.

Did Sidney Crosby Deserve 2013 Hart Trophy

"If Crosby missed the first 12 games of the year instead of the last 12 he wins the actual award from the voters. "

This is what always confused me in the MVP awards for the NHL, and has occurred in other years and for the Defensive MVP as well.

Player A scores so many points, and plays the whole season.
Player B scores + or - 2 points of player A (2 more or less) but missed 1/4 to 1/5 of the season.

I look at this as, Player B was the better player by far. He produced nearly the same in less time, giving him a much higher average per game.

Yes, I'm getting REALLY math heavily and reliant here, but I would have given this to Tav before Ovi in this season. Hell, I really wish this was a full season to see how Tav would have done with double the games at that pace.

But thats not the award. It's the MVP and you can't be valuable to your team if you're not on the ice. Crosby won the Lindsay that year for being "the most outstanding player" which he obviously was. These blogs really shouldn't be looking at the Hart and they should be looking at the Lindsay because being valuable to your team and being the best player are completely different

And I agree Tavares should have won it

Ive watched Tavares a ton since he came into the league. Love his game. Love the hustle, skill, leadership, etc..

With that said, in no way shape or form have I ever, at any point in time, thought he was better, more dominant, or more valuable than Ovie or Sid. Hell, even Malkin.

He's at the top of the 2nd tier of players.

Great player. Not a superstar IMO.

In relation to the year referenced, Tavares was number two after Crosby. He carried the Isles! OV won on his name and late season play.

I disagree with your view on Malkin. He doesn't deserve a "Hell, even him". Malkin is in the upper stratosphere, and when he's on just as good as Crosby.

That is the thing about Malkin "When he is on". For Malkin to be considered as good as Crosby it shouldn't be a matter of if he is "on" or not.

When he's on he might be the best. When he's not he's still better than OV.

I agree with the "When he wants to play" to an extent. The guy can play the game! Both on D and O. Everytime anyone does this on the Pens blogosphere reminds me why everyone else doesn't like us, we're very spoiled.

Ovie. Sid. Tavares. The decision is yours. Who would you pick?

Ovie, early season slug.

Sid, the human puck and cheap hit target?

Tavares, finally becoming the player we all feared he would be?

The player chosen was Ovie. Boooooooooo!

When Geno is ON he looks better than Crosby. I've watched him many times and the guy is a bull with the puck when he's ON. Crosby has his bad games too you know...but he's a lot more consistent being good.

See this is where I struggle. I watched lots of Isles games that season.

Tavares didn't really pick it up until the 2nd 1/2 of that season. Very similar to Ovi struggling out of the gate. Oh well...whatevs...

On Malkin..I didn't mean to imply he sucks or anything. I just don't see him in the superduperstar level. That's where 87 and 8 are. They transcend the sport. Do the commercials, have the endorsements, etc.. All I meant by that.

Bingo.

You shouldn't have to qualify anything with superstars.
