Tanked is a strong word, but that team did suck and were exposed mid season.

They made the playoffs on Andersons strong play, and as soon as he didn't get his long term extension with him, his play dropped big time, they kept on sliding until he was traded. And miraculously as soon as he got his contract in Ottawa his play went up.

Sacco was that bad of a coach and he didn't know what to do with the talent they ddi have

What would be even better is if we made a TDD trade and picked up a first from a bubble team. We make it into the playoffs, but then the 1st we get from the bubble team (Toronto) wins the lotto....

Got bored so counted how many times last season the Oilers won when one of Hall, Nuge, or Eberle didn't score. Answer 9 games won and 2 OT loses... out of 29 wins. Here's hoping we have more scoring depth this season.

No worries but I deal with as same as you guys. Just bc and outside fan base sees you have multiple top picks in a short period of time, the tank label gets attached.

Unless you follow our teams closely over the years, you see how flawed they were top to bottom, in management as well. Not even a 1st overall pick is going to turn that ship around....you have 2 top picks, tank...3 top picks...tank.

Hall or Duchene are not going to play D or not going to stop the puck. It takes time for really bad teams to build back up, especially if you have blinded sighted management at the top

I wouldn't call it an Oiler Rule. Everybody forgets about Pittsburgh tanking also for so many seasons, just never winning to move up one season (like Edm did).

People keep forgetting about that because it actually worked for that team. But you also had a player that was spoken about since he was 11yrs old as being the next great one (Crosby). Hockey since then has changed so much on a scope and with all the talent without winning to potential US markets. You think the NHL is not going to step in? They will do whatever it takes to try and get more stars down south as the market north of the border will never die.

McDonagh has turned into a top 10 (and rising) defenseman in the league. And he's young and has a great contract. He alone would cost your 2015 1st round pick PLUS more.
