He has mentioned it on more than 1 occasion.... So has to be at least some truth to it. He's one of the few bloggers I actually believe....

They've been talking about it for a while now. Hawk fans seem to think leddy is worth nielsen and a pick but have been talking about getting rid of him from the middle of last season on. Usual bs

Nope as long as we need a D-men they have the perfect one for us to over pay for, and a first line wing we cant live without.

They have to shed salary so they're not exactly in the best situation either. Tack on having to sign Seabrook next season.

Lots of outlets think they will lose Seabrook.. there was just a story I read on the internet the other day about how hard it will be for them to resign him.

They have 2 more years to figure out Seabrook. With the cap increasing by then and the talk of trading away Sharp and getting rid of some bad contracts in Bickell, Versteeg, etc, they could be in a decent position of resigning him?

Have to think Chicago finds a way to keep Seabrook. I would also think
Seabrook will want to work something out and stay with Chicago.

donovan wasn't bad last season, just don't pair him with carkner and expect him to the one defensively responsible one. When donovan was paired with dehaan you could see he was a LOT more steady and was even stepping up and taking the body with some good open ice hits. Paired with carkner if he took one chance it was in our net because carkner was some kind of awful last season.

Donovan is one of the guys I've often spoken about- a defenseman who is better suited to playing defense than getting caught flat-footed while gambling at the offensive blue line. You can't just turn everyone into Paul Coffey by drawing some nonsense on the white board. ...and as you say, it didn't help that Carkner is slower than I am...at least with de Haan, he can make that hit without having to catch a train to get back in time.

If we get any defenseman, it's going to be an Oduya-level player, IMO....a solid five who is a pending UFA, and therefore won't cost us dearly insofar as what we give them in return. If it happens, it will be right before they have to make sure they make their cap number. Leddy will cost more, because he's a RFA and his offensive stats are better (the latter part means that Garth will find him more valuable, give his track record with defensemen). I'd rather have Oduya, myself, because he learned how to play defense in New Jersey.

I like Seabrook, too- the problem is that a premier player like him is going to cost you a lot of cap space, first of all, and second of all, someone will unload a solid asset or two from their farm system for him, pending UFA or not. You have to be willing to do both of those things if you want Seabrook, and if you can't sign him, you've got another Vanek on your hands.

adding kaberle to our blue line is like adding more weights to someone's ankles before tossing them in the river.
- Isles_since_6

Exactly....he's another one for whom the word "DEFENSEman" is an exaggeration of his skill level......we have a sh*tload of those...

Donovan was bad at times last year regardless of who he was playing with. You can't tell me him missing or flubbing one timer after one timer was because he was playing with Carkner. He was better later on in the year no doubt but I'm still far from sold on that guy regardless of who he plays with.
- Vukota

I agree to an extent, but I can't help thinking that lot of the problems those kids had last year were caused by the defensive game plan:

I just wish these diagrams would show the part of the picture where they all crash into each other head on, and fall down....I'd like to believe that if that was on the drawing, they just might throw it out.

Donovan has to find a way to make it up and down that tree on the right faster. That's all there is to it.

I agree. No team will trade us a star dman under contract. It will be an Oduya or Leddy type player. The star dman will likely come from the Isles own prospects like Reinhart and Pulock.

Of course he was, as was Hamonic, amac, well, everyone except Dehaan. He was brought up and sent down, scratched then dressed and then played with crap partners as a rookie. I know he had a lot of bad moments but I still think he's going to be an excellent nhl defenseman if he's played with a mobile partner who plays more conservatively. Not ready to write him off, but with all the d prospects we have he's not going to get much time to show it. He could be moved if he looks the same in camp.

Fransy makes $50k more a year than Leddy. That move wouldn't shed any salary for them.
