And no one said Hayes is gonna be a superstar, pretty sure the consensus among Ranger Fans is we got a 1st round pick for nothing but an ELC. Most of us Ranger Fans predict he will play on the 3rd line anyway and he will need to prove himself on the ice to move up during the season.

Plus, NCAA hockey, especially from Boston, is a step more developed both physically and mentally than Juniors. A lot of college kids take a step right into the NHL like Shultz, Krug, Kreider, Stepan, etc... They are older, bigger, stronger and use to playing against bigger older players. Its not like an 18 year old kid playing against men.

I never said it was a bad move. It costs the Rangers an ELC.

He certainly has been a self entitled cancer...the kid needs to mature tremendously especially seeing he went to NYC.

you must have missed that part that said nobody in the world wants to live in Calgary.
- jimbro83

Actually Calgary was listed as one of the top 5 places to live in the, but you're American so your ignorance is expected.

I think jumping to any conclusions either ways about the kid is wrong. Thinking he'll be great is premature, thinking he's a cancer is just as wrong too. Yes, the kid wants to play, and yes maybe he'll have a rude awakening. Point is, it costed us nothing, he HAS the talent and obviously the confidence. If he doesn't work out or if he really has an attitude problem, then there's the door. But whats the loss in trying him out? Again, your intense views are suspiciously spurned based.

No... my views specifically on what happened during negotiations here are intense based strictly upon how he's handled himself.

There is probably some hurt there, even though he denies it. It was definitely a slight to Chicago to sign in another big market with a logjam at forward. But the fact is, Hayes was a reach at 24 (most people had him as a high second) and a one year wonder at BC, and yet decided he was too good for a team with four conference finals appearances and two Stanley Cups in the last 6 years. Don't you find that to be a little indicative of subpar character?

Great, you don't wanna have beers with the kid...thanks for sharing. From a hockey move point of view, any team that landed the kid has nothing but positive upside, there's no loss.

See stuff like saying "you guys are so sensitive" really is kind of silly when there are plenty of topics that Isles fans can easily get pretty sensitive about. We are all fans. We all can get sensitive.
- jimbro83

Sure we can. I think what hes saying is qhen you get your panties in a bunch over any and every topic you gwt the sensitive label.

Thanks for drafting him for us, letting him develop and handing him over for nothing in return. Tell yourself all you want that he wasn't right for the Hawks which could very well be true, but stop trying to convince yourself that the Rangers acquiring him for NOTHING is a bad move on their part. Its just not and anyone whos not a Hawks fan can agree with that
- mrn22

I am not a hawks fan, I am a fan of the worse team in the league, and I am happy that my team didn't sign this kid. Any player who demands playing time that he hasn't earned, has a bad attitud e and is not the type of guy I want on the team I root for.
if he had any integrity he would be loyal to the team that drafted him, and actually try to make the team based on performance in camp, rather than try to strongarm a team into promising him a spot and playing time.
also, the hawks do get a second round pick back.

This will be like every other NYR free agent signing(richards, gomez, drury). Everyone is super. Excited now, and in a year or two they will be trying to get rid of him.
Character does matter. Earning what your given is noble. Demanding what you havent earned and dont deserve is a trait of a spoiled brat. Good luck

There are tons of lists, you'd be hard pressed to find one where they're listed outside of the top 10.

"too good for the Blackhawks"

we have another Hawks fan here.

Id say the Hawks powerhouse success over the last 5 or so seasons would give him the idea that he doesn't have a good shot at making the big club right away... Making the Hawks to good for him.

Great Rebuttal, i could care less if you don't agree, it's actually a proven fact that Americans know (frank) all about anything that isn't American. It's obivious to anyone and everyone who isn't American.

Rangers apparently view him as a center and officially list him at 6'5" 225 lbs.

Great signing for the cost of NO ASSETS. That's huge considering we've traded away a 1st rounder in the Rick Nash trade and 2 1st rounders in the MSL trade in recent history. Kid has good size. Not expecting a world-beater here but this kid helps the prospect pool and probably turns into our best forward prospect instantly.
- rangerdanger94

That is a HUGE indictment on Sather. Hayes was maybe the 8th or 9th best prospect for the Hawks. If he turns out to be anything more than a third line player, I'll be surprised. I'm actually more excited about the Hawks getting a 2nd in next years draft, than an over-hyped prospect. If he were a prospect of Florida instead of Chicago, nobody would have paid attention. Good luck to him.
