not a lot of money either, correct me if im wrong, but he is entitled to only a 2 year ELC, so 900k base salary with bonuses.
- DDM-Coga

Those bonuses can be almost 3million though. I think Schultz had 2.75 mill in bonuses.

The same team that had the worst or 2nd worst attendance record in the NHL the past few years, who all of a sudden sells out towards the end of the lockout season when you guys were doing good, and then fizzled back to the basement of the attendance rankings after your season failed by January last year has really loyal fans?
- rangerdanger94

So what was going on in the late 90's and eighties when you could hear a pin drop at the Garden? What happened to the Rangers loyal fan base? Or are you going to say it was a sell out so it doesn't matter that 9,000 "fans" showed up to the game? Where were the "Ranger Faithful"? Didn't strike me as all that faithful.

I think he's confusing the words loyal and stupid again
- Flyfreaky

I've questioned my intelligence plenty of times and I'm not even referring to me being an Islanders fan.

Rangers, even in their lean years, never had a problem drawing crowds. I think you are confusing us with Penguins and Blackhawk fans.

Nope. Not at all. Couldn't be further from the truth. Either you have a bad memory or it's selective? All of my Ranger fan friends acknowledge it as "the dark years". There were thousands of seats left at the garden. I was at quite a few of the games. Friend worked for the Rangers at the time before he moved onto the NHL office. Rangers have hard times drawing when they had a hard time winning. There's a direct connection there. They may sell out but there were many times there were no butts in the seats. Rangerdanger is too young to realize that.

Doesnt matter if you dont hit the required bonus levels which Shultz did not.

There are 7 bonuses other than the max 10% signing bonus (92.5K) that forwards on ELC can make. None of them are easy.

Top 6 F ice time, 20 goals, 35 assists, 60 pts, .73 ppg, top 3 +-, all star selection.

Why?
- Barnaby36

Cuz the hype created about him is far more than he's going to be worth.

I also find it disingenuous that he wanted to be practically guaranteed a roster spot on a team deep in the winger spot.

The 'Hawks drafted another player with that attitude previously and after a couple seasons of whining in the minors, he was shipped out: Jack Skille

For the Blue Shirts sake, I hope he doesn't whine his way into a dressing room problem.

Where has he or his agent said he wants a guaranteed roster spot?

He didn't whine or do anything wrong this entire process. He played 4 years in the NCAA and a perk of that is being able to sign with any team he wants. He exercised his right. If he wanted an easy road to the NHL he would've signed with his brother in Florida or in Calgary but it came down to 3 of the deepest teams (and therefore hardest teams to crack the lineup in). He gives no facks about playing time. He just didn't want to sign with Chicago.

Free of charge(so to speak). Good move for a team that has no first round pick for the next two years.

Next year and were without one for the prior two drafts.

It's an okay move. Doesn't hurt them at all, anyway. No risk with the potential for decent reward.

Personally not sol on him being much, but hey, definitely worth a shot.

It absolutely BLOWS MY MIND that fans of the Rangers are actually excited that they are getting a kid who:

- Has had previous issues with the law in the past

- A kid who didn't want to sign a contract because the Hawks said they weren't going to hand him a spot in the opening day lineup

No one is curious why a supposed "elite" prospect wouldn't want to play on a consistent Stanley Cup contending team, with the best talent in the league? Most kids would be fawning at the opportunity to play with the Hawks. Oh wait.. we know why he isn't. He'd actually have to EARN a spot.

A kid who was brought up with things being given to him, who thinks things should be handed to him. Yup. That's the type of player I want on my team!

Don't let the door hit you on the way out kid

Seems as if he should been playing in the NBA instead, eh?

That's how I look at it. I can see him realizing maybe he shouldn't have pushed for a top 6 spot pretty quick but then they just do whatever with him without losing any assets.

He's a slightly less touted Nino, as far as I'm concerned.

Its simple: Kreider can't crash into the goalie and score the goal...the league won't let him...Kreider needs someone to pass to before he crashes into the goalie. Hayes is the perfect fit.

Great signing for the cost of NO ASSETS. That's huge considering we've traded away a 1st rounder in the Rick Nash trade and 2 1st rounders in the MSL trade in recent history. Kid has good size. Not expecting a world-beater here but this kid helps the prospect pool and probably turns into our best forward prospect instantly.
- rangerdanger94

That's sad. Considering he was only 6th or 7th on the Hawks Prospect watch. Clendenning, Danault, McNeil, Teravainen, Hartman, Morin...all ahead of him, and maybe others. And he is already 22....most of the ones I listed much younger....not good if Hayes is your top guy....not good at all....

This is what you call inventing things that aren't true to make yourself feel better about your own sad sack fans and sad sack organization. Don't question the loyalty of Ranger fans son.

Wasn't condescending at all actually. Being a Ranger fan I don't know how you couldn't remember that? There were plenty of periods of empty seats at the Garden when they had a hard time winning.

Yeah know it's not. The fact that your denying it is hysterical. Are you going to call for a "war" with all Islander fans now Jimbro? Don't question the loyalty of a Ranger fan? You're the biggest bunch of fair weather fans in the league.
