this is obviously a thorny issue for those that live in quebec so i'm not trolling. but look at top flight pro soccer in say, England. this is a country that has a pretty conservative, nationalistic side to it in the lower and middle classes. the people that basically that like to beat the poop out of each other for wearing the wrong jersey at the wrong bar.

several of the coaches over there are italian, spanish and argentine. but the people don't care about that or if they need a translator. if they win is all they care about.

There are competent francophones who can do the job...anyway, it's not even that important to me, but I remember there was an awkwardness around Cunneyworth's short tenure here.

I think it's a good thing when a team can connect with it's fanbase, and here in Montreal that's one of the things that is important to some fans. They are the ones you cather to as an organization and the last thing you want to do is piss them off.

The problem is that some people look at Montreal like any other market, but you can't do that. It's different.
