I asked the question last night and Jsaq came up with a pretty reasonable answer. Teams within our division like the Devils and Capitals look to be improved, which could edge the Flyers out. The Penguins and Rangers are already playoff quality teams. The Flyers might be on par with the Jackets, who I believe got better by adding Hartnell. It really didn't seem like the Jackets really needed Umberger last season.

From the Flyers point of view, we're banking on young players stepping up. We're banking on Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier to take big steps within their offensive production. Can they do it? Sure. Maybe. We still don't know.

I think we should consider injuries though. If Giroux gets hurt, are we still a solid playoff team? I'm not asking from the point of view of any other team. I'm asking, if we remove one piece, does the entire group collapse like a deck of cards?

Yes, if Giroux goes down with a serious injury, the Flyers are screwed. But nobody can control that. None of the moves other teams made are a guarantee. You never know how acqusitions are going to work out. The Flyers biggest issues last year, were team defense and 5 on 5 play. If they can improve in those areas, that alone will leap this team forward.

Potential 2nd liner, big not really physical. Didn't really put up big numbers in college until paired with Gaudreau. Well worth the risk of an incentive laden ELC

McLellan says they can earn them back, lol... if I'm Marleau, I'm taking a fat dump on the coach's desk... second time the guys stripped a letter off him like this.

Hartnell, Akeson and maybe a mid round pick or something along those lines. At his age I just wouldn't include any high round picks or any of our top D prospects.

I would've made that deal in a heartbeat from a Flyers' perspective, not sure the Sharks would be down with that. Considering we got a 3rd for McGinn, perhaps they'd have been willing to do McGinn, Hartnell and a mid rounder.

Yeah, probably not enough. But at the same time I think they were looking to move him all summer and couldn't get a deal done. Maybe the price comes down a little? The stripping of the A speaks volumes of what they think of him moving forward if you ask me.
