He'll be a 3rd or 4th liner because the Rangers are pretty stacked at forward.
- PhillySportsGuy

Really people are treating this kid as the second coming of leclair..if he ever amounts to more than a third liner id be surprised. obviously the hawks thought a second rounder was more valuable than this bumb

I think he'll fall somewhere between 3rd liner and LeClair.

He has top line potential and may already be a top 6 caliber player.

than why did the hawks let him go for a second rounder? if he had the kind of potential the hawks would have traded some off their top 6 for relief and then plugged this kid in.

How can they trade someone who doesn't play for them? The best they could have done is trade his rights. Which was no guarantee he would have signed and whoever traded for him would still be in the same spot.

they could have traded someone from their top 9 (already on team) and guaranteed this kid a spot...instead they decided a second rd pick was better.

If he was so interested in PT, I don't understand why he chose the Rangers. He'll need to beat out some pretty good forwards to crack their top 6.
- PhillySportsGuy

Very true.

Money talks though.

Odd thing is, w/ Kimmo and Mez out, and AMac + Schultz + MDZ in, their speed as a whole actually improved a lot over the past few months.

Of course, losing everything else Kimmo could do will probably offset that, but that's the silver lining.

The Hawks top 6 is made up of all stars. They, essentially, have 2 top lines. They may have the best collection of forwards in the NHL.

You don't trade away top line talent for a player who MAY become a top line player one day.

Hayes made it clear he wasn't going to sign with the Hawks. There was no sense in bending over backwards to try and appease him.

Hey Bill,
I remember a crazy rumor going around at the time of the Kenny Linseman trade. Supposedly he was shipped out because he was dating one of the Snider daughters and Ed Snider was not happy about it. Do you recall anything about this?

Agree about Streit. Coburn and Amac will need to be very good as well.
I think they are going to be forced to play huge minutes for Berube every night.

I really hope Luke Schenn shows up in top shape at the start and is ready to go.
They would benefit a lot if Luke could handle more then the ~14 minutes a game he saw last season.

- Marc D

Schenn needs to be in top shape, and needs to be meaner to reach his potential.

I always felt he could be a 30 point defensive beast. Would be nice to see him develop that way.

Kids who havent played a single second of professional sports have no business making demands of any team, particularly one that has won two championships in recent years. I hope the Rangers get exactly what they deserve.

Which of Kane/Hossa/Sharp/Saad are they moving to make room for a college kid?

If the Flyers start slow coming out of the gate, how long does it take before Hextall starts making big moves with a long term result in perspective?
- spatso

Depends on how slow of a start, but if we go the way we went last year, I would expect veterans and guys unlikely to resign to be shipped out before December(Grossmann, maybe MDZ, maybe Timonen if he is on track to be healthy by the playoffs).

Thats really it though. Streit and Vinny's term would be hard to move without taking back or retaining salary which I don't think Hextall will do unless he can get an asset back. Coburn would garner interest, but I doubt he is moved unless someone offers a great prospect or a bubble team first round pick (preferably from a team with free fall tendencies )

Am I the only one who doesn't include or even considering Lauridsen apart of the Flyers future or much of an option? When he played for us, I call that "Desperation" and a lack of options in a lost season. Luke Schenn is still young and I'm hoping Luke is thought of as an important piece like Voracek or Simmonds. By the time the young names mentioned are able to make the big club, Schenn will be a vet who should be responsible defensively and be apart of most important key defensive area of the game. You need that guy with experience who has somewhat come along within the organization.
- SuperSchennBros

First of all, that post was a huge joke.

Secondly, he'll never be a key cog moving forward. He's a cheap #7/call up who can play somewhat solid defense. Lacks foot speed and has little offensive pop (has 2 goals, though). Basically, he's a cheaper, less experienced, less shot-blocking version of Grossmann with 2 good knees and more willing to fight.

Unlike his bro, I don't see him having the hockey sense, skating or aggressiveness to make a viable plug. Suspect he's top-6 or bust.
