Brent Fedyk once had a 60 point season by virtue of playing with Recchi and Lindros

I just looked at the 92-93 season points leaders. 21 players with 100+ points

Lucky to have one player in today's league crack 100

Schenn takes Hartnell's spot in that scenario.

Dont like it. In that scenario... who are the (4) point men?

The first unit has Giroux-Streit-Voracek on the points like it does now. The second has Amac and MDZ.

I'll take Vinnys one-timer any day over Schenn.
Still not a fan of Schenn when relying on him to produce offense in key situations.

- GOA88

Yes vinny is better no doubt. But unless the flyers go with a different scheme the first unit will be include g - Streit - Voreck up top and simmer in front of net. That leaves one spot open for a rover to go in front on the net or open slot relief. IMO VL is not that guy. It has to be other Schenn or umberger.

I guess that leaves a 2nd PP unit of..

Read-Umberger/Couts-Vinny
Amac-MDZ

Should I throw the remote at the TV now or later??

It could have been much worse if we didn't sign MDZ.

I was hoping it would go to trial and all the NHL dirt would come out, you know the thing they hide, the truth. Maybe then someone would finally have the courage to drop a dime on all the game manipulating and penalties and suspensions lifted for certain players in the finals

Broken feet, broken face, etc... then Ryan White becomes your shut-down C, lol.
- Tomahawk

So we're just assuming he's getting injured? Better make sure he doesn't have to ever throw/take a hit too, he may get injured.

Unless this was sarcasm.

I am taking the lead from the Vancouver bloggers intimations from another reported about the dirty underbelly of the NHL. Any multi billion (and formerly multi million or multi hundreds of million) dollar business cant be liliy white sparkling virginal clean and without secrets.

"As Puck Daddy's Greg Wyshynski points out, a trial would be a messy affair that could expose the dark underbelly of the NHL and pro sports in general. That's something that both the Vancouver Canucks and the NHL would prefer to avoid if at all possible."

Edit add

Matt Cooke is averaging one teams star player injured seriously per year, how is he still allowed to play and earn a living in the NHL after an unprecedented list of attacks??

Playing the font of the net on the PP is something that is best left to guys who are used to it, and who aren't your best defensive forward. Like Simmonds and Umberger. Couturier is not going to be able to fully use his good passing skills in front of the net, and Umberger could rack up as many garbage goals as him in that spot.

All around he doesn't have great nhl skill but there is no doubting his offensive abilities. I've watch him in both the O and in the AhL and on the player power he is a very good side wall and goal line playmaker.

And I'm a huge couts fan but what has he proven to be considered a power play guy? Some times it seems like people expect a lot from couts on the offensive side. I know he hasn't been given great offensive chances yet but he isn't Jonathan towes.

- AGL_91

If Junior numbers don't mean "mush" when it comes to the NHL for Couturier, how come Akeson's numbers in the O and the AHL matter? What kind of offensive numbers do you think Couturier could put up playing in the AHL? I'm not stating that Couturier is a proven PP producer in the NHL, but neither is Akeson. I'm just of the opinion that Couturier is the more talented player.

i agree that there's definitely dirt somewhere along the line, but who knows what, when, and how dirty? i'm still not sure any of this would get exposed due to this particular incident of an injured player being brought to a trial.

Out of his 86 jr goals 19 were on pp. and I'm guessing he was on top unit with other gifted players against players who haven't learn pk sills yet. I'm not saying that he will never develop into a pp guy but he hasn't even scored more the 13goals yet or more then 30 assist. What makes couts so special is that he is a very well round 21 year old. I think handing him perimeter pp duties when we have other players that are more polished is crazy. And as someone said the 2nd unit won't get much ice time. I'd rather see couts and read be the first guy off the bench after a power play when guys like ov and maklin are 2minutes fresh.
- AGL_91

No problem handing those duties to a player that is more polished. But that's not Akeson. Akeson may turn out to be better on the PP, he has good hands and a nose for the puck. But it's not proven.

Eventually at some point how a player is used, becomes a big factor in what that player develops into. If Couturier is constantly seeing tough matchups, and tough zone starts, and as you suggest the shift after a Flyers PP, when you know the opposition is sending out a top line to attack, Couturier is never going to develop his offensive game. I'll put my money on Couturier developing into a solid 2 way 2nd line center that can also put up points over Akeson. There's a reason why Couturier was once considered a possible first overall pick, and actually was a top 10 selection.

I am fairly certain there is an unwritten code about what players or employees reveal and dont reveal, but they know. And they dont talk about certain things.... not because little Johnnys dreams and fantasies would be ruined, but more because it would affect the marketability of the product and affect the next kid from the praries or from Missisauga or Farjestad making his millions in the show and all these corporations. They take their money and enjoy their time even if they get hosed in the finals or someone takes their knees out and ends their career or drives their head into the ice and breaks their neck, and thats what the lawsuit was settled out of court- public record

Rank these 5 scenarios for the 2014-2015 NHL season from most likely to least likely.

1) The Flyers make a trade for an "elite" defenseman (Suter, Subban, Weber, Doughty type) prior to the TDL, with Wayne Simmonds and Braydon Coburn going the other way along with picks

2) The Jumbo tron falls on the ice during a game resulting in no less than 4 casualties, including at least one official.

3) Zac Rinaldo produces 25 points

4) Shayne Gostisbehere makes the team out of camp and becomes the first Flyer to ever win the Calder Trophy.

5) Anthony Stolarz becomes the Flyers' starting goaltender by March.
