I don't know that they'd get enough in a trade for it to be worth moving him. He's still young and could develop into a good player. The issue is that he played 3 seasons in the NHL, never got above 30 points, has a reputation for not listening to coaches, and has already jumped ship to the KHL once when things weren't going his way. What kind of return would that get you? A conditional late-round pick? Think they're better off just keeping his rights for now and seeing if he can come back and contribute later on. Even if they don't intend to keep him long-term, he has far less value now than he would be just being under contract. That at least shows more real commitment to wanting to be in the NHL and makes him less risky for other teams. |

From what I understand he played fairly tough/defensive minutes and didn't have great linemates due to Noel's coaching. He may have been better served in the OHL another year or so.
I would be fine if the Oilers offered up a 2nd + prospect for him, in line with Turris and better than what CBJ got with Filatov.

When I saw Burmi play in Wpg - great wheels but played on his own - didn't mesh with line mates ... he had 37 pts in 54 games last yr in "K" ... that's not lights out
Yes, he had trouble with Noel ... ok - Noel's gone .. no we have a guy who's coached in the K
And, yes, he was known to show up at the neighbourhood rinks
So - what's the downside ? ... we lost him already - it's like getting a free draft pick ... see how Perrault plays this year - AND - see how Burmi produces overseas
Call it out in 2015 |

That you fail to recognize the character speaks volumes. - BINGO!
Love that guy

Considering Paul Maurice coached a bit in Magnitogorsk, it would probably look favourable to Burmistrov. Maybe Maurice picked up a few words while there and they can discuss во́дка? |

He's an asset. This team and organization are not deep enough to have assets walk for nothing.
See: Hainsey, Ron. Redmond, Zach, as two examples.
Keith, what becomes troubling is the whole 'why' and that question goes beyond Burmistrov when it comes to asset management.
Let's remember that Burmistrov was not the only Jet to grow frustrated with Noel's style and tactics. Kane and Ladd have both voiced frustrations in some form and the results speak for themselves.

Pistol Pete - yes, the story behind the story ... agreed ... "draft & develop" does not make a "system" on it's own
Burmi is an asset and, given the situation, we have some time to observe and act
Meanwhile, we are all wondering what identity the Jets are aspiring to and what steps management is taking (system ?) to make it happen ... "big & fast" is only good if it results in "deep run into the playoffs" ... or, in our case, "playoff appearance"
One prediction I am comfortable in making: the seats will be full this season
