Mact is sort of a victim of the circumstances he came into I think. And certainly trying to change any losing culture that may be in place.
While tambs didnt necessarily look to build a bad culture, but wanted those high picks and hoped theyd just turn it around one day.
Very risky. And until proven otherwise, a mistake. Or at least a much slower process than he envisioned. I dont think anyone foresaw another lottery pick going into year 5 |

I don't even know what the major issue was. All along wasn't the plan to suck? Under Tambo that's what we did, then one day he is fired and we look back and wonder why were so bad. Wasn't that the plan?
Sure we could've been better by adding complimentary players like Florida does, but then doesn't that take away the top picks?
Either way I never know what the plan is. No matter what it is fans don't like it.
As for MacT he has been dealt a bad card, but at the same time it's not like he doesn't have the assets to get things going here. He went back on his word about Hemmer, then Gagner, he might have to finally bite the bullet and move on e of those "core" pieces he's talked of in the past.
If the team isn't better by x-mas, it's either go against your word or deal with the results of yet another top 5 or 10 pick.
It doesn't help when year after year there are teams that were horrid one year or on the way down that end up turning it up. |

If that happens, I'm looking hard to deal Eberle or Yakupov for a centreman and J Schultz for a lower ceiling, more steady defender that can break the puck out.

Meh, not to discount it, but there are a ton of players that became stars without playing in the playoffs or with very limited action.
Tavares, Stamkos, Doughty, Duchene, Hall, Kopitar, etc...
There isn't one way to become a star in this game. If you want it you have to put the time and effort in and that's where I think we have had issues in the past. Hall busted his balls a lot since getting here, but where were RNH, Eberle, Yak, Schultz, Gagner? How many games did those guys have where you looked and said "wow that guy took the team on his back tonight"? Now how many times can you say that about Hall?
Long story short, Hall has had more games then the rest of those guys combined. That's the issue we have. We have to want it enough, and so far we don't want it. - Lahey
Or he (hall) just might be the only one capable of doing so.
And im the same; I dont want to discount the effort or 'wanting it', but I think its much deeper than that. We didnt have the pieces to win regardless of how bad eberle wanted it.
Stamkos went to an eastern final, kopitar had been in the playoffs. As had duchene.
Of course hall is a star regardless. But we need team success |

We don't even see that next gear though. If they don't have it we are in trouble.
As for Stamkos and such, Stamkos found a way to be an elite goal scorer before making the playoffs. I just don't think you need a very long playoff run or playoffs to take that next step. |

I'd assume by now he must've had some offers on those guys. There is always teams looking. I do however suspect Perron and Yak have been lowballed in offers. Eberle however should have pretty decent value around the league. |

Not sure why perron would be lowballed. Had a great year in his first year outside of St. Louis' defensive system. Also has two years at a low cap hit. |

Probably because we paid nothing for him and this is could just be a one off. I doubt teams are willing to pay top dollar for Perron right now. |

I don't see any reason to trade Perron, he fits good with the team and we could use more guys like him not less. |

mid-way though 2010 it was obvious the Oil were done, and that a top 3 pick was inevitable. Surely Bambi must have known that 1 awesome 18 yr old doesn't fix a team, but if you're lucky and get 3 really good kids you might give yourself a chance down the road. I doubt he thought it was going to be 3 #1s in a row, but I'm sure he tanked the team to a certain extent to ensure good drafting position.

Ya but you can sign a winger like Penner, Setoguchi, or grab a guy like Josh Bailey for LW
You can even look at bringing up someone from the farm to play bottom 6 minutes and hope a guy like Pouliot can play top 6 for a bit.
I'd rather have depth down the middle. |

Using a winger to fill a center or defensive hole will go a lot further. |

What kind of center or defender are you going to get if you are trading a winger- its not like they trade those types of players everyday or we would have done it already... Bottom line is if you have holes in your line up- trading from a position with no depth still leaves the team at a loss/with holes overall... albeit- u can bandaide fix a winger easier than the other 2 positions- its just that no one is trading good centers or defenders... Only piece i see moving early on is Petry and I really dont like it... maybe jultz if they cant reach a deal... |

He's a decent D man, who's young he showed some really good moments in Toronto, just consistently wasn't there. Also that boy can fight when he needs to. |
