Some people would argue RNH playing in the NHL was a mistake. - rangerdanger94
if not injured by a freak accident where he tripped into the boards he would have ran away with rookie scoring. It was not a mistake. |

Some people would argue that everyone shouldn't play in the NHL until they can go through the AHL first, but those people aren't always right. |

Well he scored at a .84 PPG rate his rookie season and then .5 PPG the following seasons and .7 PPG the next season. It doesn't solely depend on his rookie season numbers alone...it's later down the line when his development might take a hit. Anyway, I'm not one of the people that think he was rushed, just saying there is an argument for it. Yakupov too after his horrible sophomore season. |

People like to remember that Nuge was injured because he was too small to play against the Western Conference every night, but that's garbage. He fell awkwardly into the boards on his own. If anything he's dished out more punishment (Brenden Morrow) than he's taken. - Matt_Henderson
He's biggest mistake was waiting so long to get surgery, but I think going forward having Hall and him having that surgery done that future Oilers get it done asap.

If your super young 1st overall players keep getting injured by "freak injuries" isn't there something to it? |

Something to what? Yak wasn't injured. Hall was injured in a fight with a goon. RNH fell into the boards funny. If the argument is that 1st Overall picks shouldn't play right away because Hockey can be dangerous then I'm not sure why anybody would EVER be allowed to play in the NHL. |

Not exactly uncommon for a guy to dip in his sophomore year and then not get back up there in year 3 after coming off major shoulder surgery. |

We should give lessons to depth dmen like Corey Potter to not jump when his teammate is on the ice and land on his head with a skate

When it's stupidity yes people get defensive. The same people were saying we rushed Hall and Seguin was the right pick? Where are they now? |

How come FLO doesn't get ripped for rushing Barkov? How about Lindholm, Nichuskin etc.?
If Reinhart and Bennett play are BUF and CGY going to get ripped on? |

Fear. Even Gazdic was scared because he uses his shoulder in his job more than those guys, but after talking to Hall and hearing there is more mobility and strength the guy got a hard on.
I'm just assuming he got hard based on the excitement in his voice. |

I don't know...I don't see how saying that an 18 year old kid shouldn't play in the NHL right away in most cases regardless of talent is a stupid comment. |

Because you have little to back up your story. There is a reason why so many top 3 forwards play in the NHL right away. THe only ones that don't are guys that just aren't physically reading. |

Forget the injuries. The reason I believe in keeping a kid in Juniors an extra year is beneficial is because of defense. Most of the top picks are good enough offensively to step into the NHL and do well enough. Where they struggle is defensively and that's the main thing they learn when they're sent down. Down there, they play in every situation. PK, matched up against the opponent's top line, out there protecting a 1 goal lead in the final minute, etc. That's the benefit of playing there along with obviously filling out your frame and gaining strength. In the NHL, a coach isn't going to put a rookie out on the PK to learn. The coach is trying to win every game and if that means benching the offensively gifted rookie to protect a lead late in the game or never using him on the PK then that player will develop his defensive game slower. |
