Well of course the Pitt blogger chooses Sid over Ovie

What about yesterday when he said Ovi deserved it over Geno in 09?

He's chosen Ovi over Malkin already. This series hasn't been about trying to get the Penguins more honors, it's been about seeing if the voting has been in line with the advanced stats.

According to those stats Crosby should have won.

"Henrik Sedin should not have won the award. That isn't the same as saying Sedin didn't have a great year, it just means there were at least two players who were better."

But the Hart Trophy isn't awarded to the 'best' player. It's awarded to the most valuable player. Crosby and Ovechkin had better years. Sure. 'Value' is such a subjective thing though. I'm not sure you can write Hank off, especially given the Daniel injury.

EDIT - As an aside, I'm not saying that I'd give it to Henrik. Just that I think he deserves a little/lot more consideration, even though he wasn't the "best."

Good read!

This was the year the Caps won the President trophy. Do you think they would have even been close if you take Ovi off the team? Brendan Morrison was our second line center that year... ( and highlights just how far back we've been trying to fill that hole.)

Just playing devil's advocate here, to the so-called definition of the Hart. That's not how it has ever been voted on.

And really, who on this earth doesn't covet a major award?

FWIW, I would have given it to Ovechkin that year for those exact reasons (notice I didn't say I'd give it to Hank). He was incredibly valuable to his team. Just like Henrik Sedin was to his team. Writing off any one of the three is tough for me to do.

Any and all comments should be disregarded after Stuart infiltrates the blog.

Do you still pretend to know all the facts on Malone, without knowing one?

If you've read all the blogs this week reviewing the Hart Trophy Winners (I suspect you haven't) this is the first time Ryan has suggested the voters didn't make the right choice, even when the other choices usually included a Penguin. Combine that with the fact that there's a lot of fact based statistical analysis here, and I have a hard time finding anything homerish or trollish.
- Emperor Filonius

I actually have, and, like I said, I don't feel like there was much bias in those. This one however gives importance to insignificant stats (seriously you're going to tell me there's a huge difference between 55% and 57% offensive zone starts) and ignores all the other factors that led to his selection.

I have no great love for the Sedins, but I know that when your team's #2 scorer (on a team largely devoid of big point producers) goes down for a quarter of the season and you play a part in over 40% of your team's goals and have a career year, you should be in the conversation. Now factor in that his team probably wouldn't have made the playoffs without that career year, let alone finish as high as they did, and that sounds to me like most valuable.

Ovechkin won the Pearson/Linsday award that year anyway, since that's an individual award that has nothing to do with team contribution.

My sole point is that there is a huge difference between disagreeing with the premise of a well reasoned and thought out blog and accusing it of being homerish and trollish.

One aside, which has nothing to do with the blog or any rational premise: I wish the Canucks would go back to the really dark brown orange and gold unis worn during the Pavel Bure, Trevor Linden, Rick Walmsley era circa 1994...maybe its just the unis, or the personalities...but I find the Canucks much harder to root for since the color change. There is no rational basis for that statement, but there it is.

Be prepared for angry, angry Canuck fans. They only have a couple of major awards and this blog discredits one of them.

Who's asking you to root for the Canucks?
