I think the only team that's come anywhere close to those Oilers teams was the '95 Wings -- but of course they fell short that year:

Why not the 95/96 Avalanche
http://www.hockeydb.com/i...ons/teams/0006901996.html

Forsberg and Sakic are about as solid a 1-2 as you can have. They had Roy in net, Foote and Ozolinch anchoring the D, Kamensky was at the top of his game...plus He Who Shall Not Be Named.

"Gretzky single-handedly won the game for his club. He scored twice within the first 90 seconds of the game, and finished off a hat trick by the end of the first period. Although the Oilers put six shots on net over the final 40 minutes, it was enough to escape with a 4–3 win and 2–1 series lead."

So I was incorrect. He didn't score 2 goals in the first minute.

No, took him a full minute-and-a-half. Must have not gotten much sleep the night before.

Keep on fighting Kimmo! Every Flyer fan is behind you 100%

Leighton won't do jack. Isn't Anttii Raanta still on Chicago's roster. The limited times I saw him play he looked pretty legit. Got a shutout against the Kings.

When the entire Blackhawks team goes down due to malaria, Leighton will step in and singlehandedly win 7 Stanley Cups in one season.

Probably the 2nd-closest since, but '95 Wings were still head and shoulders above.

Case in point: 06-07 Flyers

Randy Robitaille and....whoever else were getting ready to light it up, just ran out of time.

Edit: "whoever else" would be Freddy Meyer IV

Was thinking more along the lines of the '97 Flyers.... still have no idea how that team couldn't win at least 1 game in the Finals with the players they had, goaltending aside.

f'ng disgrace. if hextall had been able to channel even half of his '87 scf performance, they win at least 2 games.

that darren mccarty goal still makes me sick.

Allowing a 2 on 0 SH break for the first goal of the series... now's that's some foreshadowing.

Best team of all time, IMO, the 76-77 Montreal Canadiens. they went 60-8-12, won the cup, half the roster is in the hall of fame and Scotty Bowman behind the bench. They were unstoppable!

The talent is there but he'll have to learn to not be 100% selfish which he's pretty much always been.
