You gathered all of this from the myriad of examples, at the pro level, Hayes has demonstrated this flaw, right?

Worse, the college level. He was a 22 year old senior, and he still refused to impose his size and strength on smaller, younger players in the middle of the ice

Yea, he just flourished offensively on the best scoring line in college last season.

This is a low risk signing with a nice return if he continues to trend upward.

More like his anger from being a Hawks fan
- rangerdanger94

Na, read back on some of the Hawks blogs around draft time when they were talking about trading his rights then.

He had no path to the Blackhawks in the immediate future. No room in the top 6 wings for him and he isnt solid enough of a player to be a bottom 6 role guy.

That paired with he didnt want to start in the AHL and there would have been a number of Hawks prospects ahead of him. Honestly, if he felt he was too good to develop, good riddance, we dont want that kind of attitude and gladly take the compliance 2nd rounder

OK, thats true, but several NHL writers have pointed out, how much of his success is attributed to Gaudreau?

He was pretty average preceding his senior season

One team's trash can be another's treasure. Hawks know a lot about this; trading little, to the Flyers, for an unproven Patrick Shark oh so long ago.

As good as Gaudreau is there are players, on the Rangers, that can distribute the puck. Hayes needs to play with good passers. There are a hanfdul of Rangers forwards that have good ice vision and can distribute well enough at the National Hockey League level.

I'm sure he joined the Rangers strictly for guaranteed top 6 time...not like we aren't one of the deepest teams in the league. The kid doesn't care about guaranteed playing time otherwise he would've signed in Florida or Calgary or even Pitt with their weak winger depth. He chose to flake on the Hawks because of how they treated his brother (allegedly) and chose a team where he knows he will have to earn his spot and may very well have to spend the year in the AHL.

Enjoy K.Hayes

He is today's Rick Nash lite

Perimeter floater who doesn't play physical and refuses to use his size

- FourFeathers773

Awesome! We signed 'Rick Nash lite' everybody! He doesn't play physical and refuses to use his size but he's good for 20-30 goals per year.

Calling someone 'Rick Nash lite' is a compliment in any capacity...esp for a player who costs nothing to obtain.

And who knows if this is true but supposedly he was bitter that the Hawks traded his brother.

He consistently improved every year in college which I like to see. That shows me that he's actually developing and not getting stale or complacent. Did he benefit from Johnny Hockey? Yea, but he also played 14 games on a different line his senior year and still put up 1.5 PPG those 14 games.

We're not expecting him to step onto our 1st line and carry our offense. Our top 6 wingers are Nash, MSL, Kreider, and Zuccarello. He will start on our 3rd or 4th line if he even makes the team and with his size and scoring touch he will be a boost in depth.

That's great news! it's like getting a 1st round pick back, but one you don't have to wait to develop for 2-3 more years. With his age we'll know pretty quickly if we have something or not.

I hope the recent strategy to sign good college FA's continues even after we start having 1st round picks again. I think we have a decent D-man who can step in for Moore if needed and then we have those other 2-3 we signed this year.

Just curious, would you Hawks fans be so quick to sh!t on this kid, if he decided to stay in Chicago?

Can someone educate me: Does this mean John Moore will not be signed or will Sather move a contrac/ shuffle someone to the minors to make room for him?

A lot of people didnt even want him after the way he's already had off-ice and attitude issues

Again, he would need to sit in Rockford for a couple years, if he was going to sit and sulk in the AHL like Pirri did, then people would still be raving to get rid of

He also plays a style that is of no use to the hawks any time soon

If he wanted to stay in Chicago, he would have kept his mouth shut, gone to the minors and developed and not shown a sense of entitlement that he belongs with the big club which happens to be one of the deepest teams in the league. I'm not saying he's going to be a good or bad player but let's not put him in the All-Star game because he succeeded playing next to the Hobey Baker winner.

That works for me.

Kreider-Stepan-St. Louis
Hagelin-Miller-Nash
Hayes-Brassard-Zuccarello
Lombardi/Glass-Moore-Stempniak/Fast

I am cool with these forwards being on the opening day roster.

If you say so, I think it is a tad presumptuous to think Hayes wouldn't have worked out in Chicago though.

hayes is a nice slot in for pouliot's spot on that line.

similar size, and speed it seems from the limited viewing ive seen of hayes vs pouliot.

seems to be a 2 year deal, not much risk. I love it
