As much as those guys were hyped, they were never hyped to the extent of being "generational players". They rode the prospect hype that Lindros created. When he was a prospect tearing it up and slated to go number 1 overall, everybody was going wild and ever since then, the potential 1st overall always gets Richardrode hard. - rangerdanger94
No that was just an odd time, where we had 2 drafts in 3 or 4 years that produced.....(frank) all. It will happen again. |

Maybe it's because I really don't know much about this kid, but why all the hype coming from an organization that was three games from winning the Cup last season on a kid that hasn't played a lick in the NHL?
Talent, potential. Talent, potential. Talent, potential. What ever. All I read when seeing that is Lundmark, Brendl. Mottau, Gilroy. Grachev, Montoya.
Prove you belong in the NHL first. |

@markdivver 11:08PM - Not looking good for #bruins on Kevin Hayes. I'm being told Rangers and Avs appear to have inside track. |

True but talent is talent and goal is to acquire that talent and hope potential becomes production. |

I read somewhere recently that if he was in this past draft he would have gone between 15-25 in the 1st rd |

It's more about acquiring a "1st round" prospect at the cost of no assets which is huge considering we've traded away 3 1st round picks in recent years. Not to mention this kid is 6'4" and over 200 lbs...that's Kreider size. And he can skate.
People are crapping on Hayes because they think he has an attitude problem and is an entitled dooshbag but where do they get that from? Clearly, with the Avs and Rangers the frontrunners, all the rumors about him wanting guaranteed top 6 playing time were just assumptions by the media. The kid played 4 years in the NCAA and earned the right to pick his team. It's just a perk of going the college route. Nothing wrong with that. |

MSL - Stepan - Nash
Kreider - Brassard - Zuccarello
Hagelin - Miller - Hayes
Stempniak - Moore - Lombardi/Glass

They would be adding a guy that many project would have been a mid-first round pick if he was in this year's draft. With the picks that the Rangers have given up in the Nash and St. Louis deals, they need to replenish the system. Signing a guy like Hayes, who you have to give up absolutely nothing for, is just a no brainer, under any calculus.
If he is a bust, so what? They didn't give up anything for him. It's all upside with no risk. |
