Duclair is likely a year away from being in NY full time.

Absent him blowing away everyone at camp, he should stay in Juniors this year. Alot of opportunities to have some great experiences that will make him a better player. He has a real good shot of making the Team Canada World Junior team, and his Junior club hosts the Memorial Cup this year. Seems to me that those experiences would aid him greatly, and there would need to be a real compelling reason (i.e., so good you can't cut him) to keep him with the big club this year.

I agree Pete, I just don't see a reason to rush Duclair. Let him dominate juniors again and have him come in next season.

The Rangers are pretty deep on the wings this season anyway.

I was just wondering that. Thanks for mentioning the Memorial Cup Pete. That is significant, because if the Rangers do the most likely thing, and that is send Duclair back to juniors, they definitely aren't seeing him again this year. They'll be no he is joining the Rangers for the playoffs after his junior season ends because he will be playing until the very very end of it all. The Memorial Cup is may 21st to the 31st.

I read that Duclair and Graves will be off the 50 contract list when/if they get sent back to their junior teams.

That's correct, only question is when that occurs. Would do it sooner rather than later because if sign John Moore now, that would put them over 50.

Let him play and mature down there. Even if he has a big year, very doubtful he still would get called up to the Rangers for the playoffs. I could easier see Ryan Haggerty getting called up if a big year in the AHL same with Danny Kristo due to maturity, rather than rushing Duclair.

And Graves was just traded to Quebec so they'll have 2 prospects playing a lot of meaningful hockey

Pretty healthy possible performance bonuses, but for now, cap hit is 900k

And the thing is he is signed now. It's not like he is demanding top 6 minutes or anything. He is on an entry level deal and part of the organization. He could end up spending the year in Hartford, who knows. So I don't get how anyone can say this is a dumb move. In retrospect this equates to the Rangers coming to terms with a draft pick.

I highly doubt hes going to Hartford. A big part of his signing with a team was about playing time. He wants to play. I could see him jumping right into Pouliot's slot on the 3rd line.
