Yea, not buying that one.

Saw Ren Lavoie report on the twitter machine that our old pal Simon Gagne is getting a camp tryout with the Bruins.

Really good for him... I hope he makes it back to the NHL, even if it's not here and with a rival. No career as worthy as his should have to end up in controversial limbo.

Extraskater is shut down cause the NHL changed its sharing policy. They can be such bumholes sometimes.
- JAKEw1234

That's one theory. The other is that the NHL purchased them to coop their stuff into their native stats package. And the other theory... just routine server maintenance, which they badly needed.

Thats the point. If he is healthy... in a full season he could still produce at least 25 goals. I would be willing to put money on it.
- GOA88

I wouldn't put a lot of money on that bet. The last time he scored 25 goals was 6 years ago.

I agree with you.

Doesn't it seem awfully weird that the franchise backed away from Gagne like a bad fart once the franchise hired Hexy as Asst GM?

They could have had him on the team before the season, during the season, and now. It's obvious they have no interest in him anymore.

I don't think Gags has a 25 goal season left in him, either. I think he can play a role, but I think his scoring days are gone.

Since leaving the Flyers in 2010, Gagne played all of 135 games over 3 seasons and scored 29 total goals. He was not the player he was when he was in his prime in Philly, and honestly, even if he makes the Bruins roster, I'd be shocked if he stayed healthy enough to play 50 games or score more than 10 goals.

Loved him when he was here, but its time to move on

In his last season, when he was fairly healthy, I think he had 5 goals. He'd most likely be in more of a checking role, and even so, I don't see 25 goals.

Thats the problem. His health. That is exactly why his numbers went down that way. No other reason. You dont lose skill....

Yes, you do. You lose wheels, strength, and skill. It's why Jagr is not putting up 100+ points anymore despite getting big minutes..

I dont think since being injured he has been given a fair shake to play top line minutes. A HEALTHY Gagne would produce fairly well on Girouxs line IMO

You can lose skill by not playing for a full year in your mid 30s

Jagr still has world class hands. His age is the factor in losing strength and speed. Thats why he doesnt produce 100 pts

Yet you don't think the same thing would inhibit Gagne similarly?

Playing on a top line means facing other teams top D pairs and checkers. I doubt Gagne could physically withstand that for very long

He looked fine to me in the lock out year. The whole team struggled offensively and Gagne was with the offensively inept Couturier in a checking role for most of the time. Which might I add he did admirably playing that role.

I think Hexy is looking to purge the team of 30+ players

He looked okay in that role. He looked like a far cry from the 40-goal Gagne. I think 15is way more reasonable.
