I guess I just don't understand the angst over "attention". It just seems like people are trying to have fun, it's not like anybody who buckets and doesn't donate is reducing the donations to ALS.

(yes, bucket has been verbed)

I think I saw that the ice bucket challenge has raised over $5.5 million towards ALS research, fwiw.

That's pretty awesome.

I think these players are still out there. Lucic and Shawn Thornton are two examples for me.

Sure... If you are a skilled guy that can throw hands when necessary I'm all for it. It's the staged crap between cement heads who play 3 minutes a game that I hate.

Agreed. I wonder if Simmonds and Hartnell may have a go. I'd be so torn.

It truly is. You go from being completely normal to being unable to speak or move at all within a 5 year span
- PhillySportsGuy

He was finally able to speak when they took him off life support. They brought him out to look at the ocean in Squamish, B.C. (his home) and he got all excited because he could speak. truth was it was just the oxygen escaping his lungs. He understood. Looked out at the ocean and mountains and just faded away.

This thing about comparing players in different eras makes me look at it this way.

Anyone that put up big numbers in the obstruction trapping era is a better player than the newer era - no red line, no 2 line offside etc. What you had to to get through just to get to the goalie and fight through in the offensive zone made it more diificult

There is the sidebar argument about goalies of different eras, but during that time of the ice clogging and left wing lock and clutch and grab it was different.

Some players have played through both eras ( post 2004 ???) and been successful, but I cant see a guy like Crosby having numbers like he did 06- till his concussion playing againt the 1995 or 2000 Devils or the 99 Stars and maybe even the 04 Flyers when healthy and all those Red Wings teams of that decade.

Look at Brieres numbers before the 04-05 lockout, the ice opened for him after the rule change

That's both beautiful and heart breaking. If I had it, I think I'd want to go to the Pacific NW as well.

It was awful. I mean, can't think of a better place, but to see what ALS does to people is terrifying.

For every advantage, there's a disadvantage. The goalies are better, but there's no red line. Defensive schemes are better, but there are more PPs.

There's enough randomness in hockey to keep it interesting, but it's the nature of all team sports that the score tends to progress more towards zero as teams and coaches improve, unless you change the rules once in a while to (frank) with them.

Makes what Jagr/Francis did in the 90's even more remarkable. Imagine how monstrous their numbers would have been had their careers started in 2002 or so instead.

I can't get enough of watching people I don't like dousing cold water on themselves... Bettman, MAF, Kunitz, etc. Still waiting on Carlyle and Nonis.

(frank)ing hate this ice bucket poop.

How bout donating to the (frank)ing charity and actually helping instead of dumping cold water on your face like an idiot.

(This is more for people my age that I see doing on Facebook 97 times per day. I'm sure Therrien donated)

Mini rant over
