give him 3 years 9 mil total and trade staff or stewart asap
- homiedclown

U wanna give 3mil per to a guy with ONE good year of College hockey?
Seems like a lot to me
Although, I guess we prob would have to overpay to get him
And since we aren't gonna be anywhere near the cap for a while, I guess the # doesn't matter all that much
However,
Giving a young player who seems to feel entitled a contract like tht does worry me a little...
Bottom line,
He costs us nothing to acquire, so why not add another asset?

I think he's prob worth a shot...
Idk we can sign him to a 3yr, 9mil deal though
I'm not sure what the max is for ELC
We can factor in bonuses though to bump up the payday for him to a degree
It'll prob come down to where he thinks he can get playing time the quickest

If I were a team like EDM, CAL, or NYI I'd def be all over him

idk...kinda like stewart...big, top-nine power forward who can score...word has it that he likes it in buffalo...

am of the opinion that the team doesn't really need any more bottom-six forwards like hayes

- Michael Pachla

He's not a bottom six forward. Former 1st rounder and was outstanding at Boston College. Future top 6 forward imo.

Don't really like Stewart being part of the rebuild. They brought in good character guys because they feel they can help the young ones, by that same logic they should be looking to ditch stewart. Colorado and STL fans couldn't wait to get rid of him.

Buffalo fans can't wait to get rid of Cody Hodgson, Tyler Ennis, and Tyler Myers

Just playing devils advocate but sometimes players are what they are. Stewart is a serviceable 5-9 forward that can score. Fans hate him because he looks like he could be so much more. Same with guys like Hodgson or Ennis, they are twenty goal players that for some reason people feel we are better off without

Are you going to stick up for Stafford, too?

Hodgson and Ennis are still developing their game(s), and have a growth trajectory that suggests that "dissatisfaction" with their play is really just unjustified "impatience."

Stewart and Stafford have both been around longer, and have more of the feel of "unfulfilled potential"

I don't dislike Stewart the way I dislike say Hodgson. My issue with Stewart is not a talent one. You don't end up on 3 teams in 4 years with his capabilities unless there's something wrong with you off the ice.

I don't usually buy into that sort of thing but I've heard about it enough times from when he was with Colorado and St Louis to think that there must be something to it.

Stewart and Stafford are in contract years . Both have a history of playing above their heads in contract years . Let them both do that and trade them at the trade deadline for max value . Don't trade them now and get far below market value . Easy enough . Neither one figures into the rebuild.

I could. He ended the year playing good hockey.

He probably won't be here when we are good. I don't see the urgency to move him.

Let him and Stewart pad their stats playing top line minutes

I don't know about off ice issues (whether true or untrue) but my main point was that fans opinions are often far more critical of a player on their team then on another team.

We see Stafford as someone who has to go, another team could see him as their 2nd line RW. His #s indicate he's a decent to pretty good player.

He had one good year in college....hardly "outstanding" in terms of a 4 year career.
Hasn't played a game in Any professional league yet, and was a late 1st round pick. I may turn out to be completely wrong, but I'm not shipping those tow out of here because this guy arrived. And I would trade Staff for a bucket of melted ice.

I'd take a chance on him, but I wouldn't do a 3 per year deal on someone who has yet to play a game

I thought he was pretty good even before his final year, numbers weren't sky high but I thought he played well.

I wouldn't trade both either, just one of them and not necessarily right away. His best year was with Gaudreau, I'd like to see what he could do with similar talent around him. Could start him out in the AHL with Armia for example.

Doesn't he want to play in the NHL right away? Like Schultz?
